Lesslemming Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Hello, I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseam, but there never seemed to be a final verdict. I am still operating Affinity Photo V1 on my Mac with Catalina but wanted to upgrade to Monterey for a long time. There were big discussions about performance issues and even crashes with V1 and Monterey. Have these issues been solved? Is it safe to upgrade to Monterey or will I have to purchase a new Affinity version afterwards? Thank you Quote
Hangman Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Hi @Lesslemming and welcome to the forums, I've been running V1 with Monterey for several months without any issues so personally I would say it is safe to upgrade to Monterey if your Mac supports it, which I'm assuming from your question it does. Wasn't such an answer clear before, especially when you noticed "this topic has been discussed ad nauseam"? – Where you asking for the general system requirements for V1, or for "performance issues and even crashes with V1 and Monterey" + "these issues been solved" ? Feel free to correct me, but all results were discussing these issues (around '21 and '22) and were completely open ended. I did not find someone responding "Oh good, this new update solved the compatibility issue that I had". The response from Hangman did give me what I was looking for, at least one confirmation that it does work Quote

There are various issues and bugs that occur on specific configurations only, others require certain tasks and workflows to get triggered, while it still maybe unclear what specific condition is required to cause the occurrence of a certain issue or bug. Especially the various errors + messages that result in data loss for users (like "can't open", "can't save", "can't access", "file lost", "corrupt", "must close" etc.) don't happen to the majority of all Affinity users – but may be very disturbing for those that experience them. I don't mean "don't install Monterey", especially without knowing what issues you are experiencing & accepting currently in Catalina. If possible you could install Monterey on a separate volume first to check how your specific issues or concerns get handled – or whether your setup will result in unexpected issues that might not happen to Hangman at all, like this one which appears to continue in V2 for some users … On the other hand a forum's search may imply / indicate a general decrease of issues with newer macOS versions (while general 'improvement' over time sounds like an expected development): Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
Lesslemming Posted September 29, 2023 Author Posted September 29, 2023 I know where you are coming from. My intention is to know in advance if there are still experience breaking issues to be expected as in Monterey will not run Affinity Photo in a manner which makes it possible to use it. I have not experienced any issues with Catalina and AP V1. I will be happy to learn if others have serious issues. Quote
JPN18 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Just wondering @Lesslemming how you got on with v1/Monterey? Currently pondering a similar move; any advice welcome. Ta! Quote

As of today, I am running the latest Monterey and so far everything seems fine. I have not tested extensively, but Affinity Photo V1 and Capture One 21 seem to be running fine Quote
