That written, I would have backed the heck out of your feature request. I think it's a case of the squeaky wheels get the oil. The devs must have a frighteningly long list of requests, so there has to be some way of prioritising things. Three people wanting a change to tool selection probably doesn't register too highly
Bond
There is no way it’s 3 people. I would bet my life Illustrator users download the demo, get frustrated by some inconsistencies in the UI and tool behaviour, and run away screaming without uttering a peep to anyone. It’s also been a year since I first posted this. So long in fact that when I tweeted Affinity, they actually reminded me I had made these requests before. BofG
That's a good point, no way of knowing how many people it's put off actually purchasing. I can sort of understand the idea behind a quick toggle between tools, I'm baffled as to why it cannot be a separate key for it and the other shortcuts just stick to selecting the assigned tool. Darcey
BUMP... YES turn off tool rotation on shortcut key multi press, there's a reason why photoshop & illustrator doesn't do it. I've lost count how many times I've been: "wtf, why is this doing this now... god damn it... tool is in some mode I don't want, switched to selection tool, and again, wtf, why is this now cutting out circles... aghh..." I don't want to have to keep track of if I am already in a tool and press its shortcut again, instantly go to use it only to find out its in the wrong mode and now I got to correct the usage of the software, if your going to do stuff like that you need to make the icons much more prominent as to what mode your in, so one can see wtf is going on, esp on 4k screens. Or just give us the option to turn that off...
Staff MEB Posted November 17, 2020 Staff Share Posted November 17, 2020 Hi @Darcey, Welcome to Affinity Forums Go to Affinity Photo Preferences, Tools section and tick/enable Use SHIFT modifier to cycle tools. In this mode they only cycle if you press SHIFT.
