Affinity Photo 1.10.6 to Affinity Photo 2.2.0 editing

Recommended Posts

I had Affinity Photo 1.10.6 on my Mac and I need to move some files to my windows laptop to work on.  I have Affinity Photo 2.2.0 on my windows laptop.  When I import the image from my Mac onto my laptop it gave me a message that I needed to "save as" in order to have the file editable.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I cannot get the file to "save as" anything else but the same as it was so I can edit it.  What do I need to do in order to be able to edit these files coming from different versions of Affinity Photo?

Can you show said message? As far as I know, when opening a document from V1, a warning is displayed that if you save the file under the same name, it will no longer be possible to open it in V1 - and therefore it may be more appropriate to save it under a new name using SaveAs. If you no longer need this preservation of compatibility with V1, you can save it normally with Save.

There is some kind of issue with the Affinity 2.2.0 applications on Windows accessing files from iCloud folders.

I clicked the "do not show again" button because I thought I understood so it doesn't show up any longer.  It basically said what you said Psenda "warning is displayed that if you save the file under the same name, it will no longer be possible to open it in V1 - and therefore it may be more appropriate to save it under a new name using SaveAs."  I have tried to "saveas" something else and reopen it and it still isn't where I can edit it.  Walt I pulled the files over with a jump drive not icloud.  I'm at a loss!  I hope it wasn't a waste in purchasing the program for my laptop.  If I can't open my previous files then it doesn't help me at all.

Unfortunately, we still don't understand why you can't open them? The fact that you are getting a warning is proof that you can open the files.
Can you provide a screenshot or video of what is going wrong?

Hi @ElaineHurst,

I suspect the dialog you're referring to is the following:

image.png

When opening a V1 Document within Affinity V2, the above warning message will be shown. This is because Files saved in V2 can no longer be opened within V1.

If you do not plan on editing this document further within Affinity V1, and instead plan on only using Affinity V2, then you can simply edit this file and use File > Save as usual to save your document changes, overwriting the existing file.

If you do plan on editing the existing file again within Affinity V1, you need to use File > Save As to create a new document, which will only be accessible within V2. This means you can continue to edit the original file in V1, as required.

The dialog being shown in simply a warning to users, such that you do not overwrite any V1 files, due to saving them within V2. There is no concern with this dialog showing (or not showing after ticking the 'Do not show this warning again' option), provided you are aware of the above file limitations after saving a document in V2.

I hope this clears things up!

I can't get to the individual layers.

And is the document saved with layers? or is it a raster image? Can you provide a Screenshot/video (with Layers panel) of what this "open" file looks like in version 1 and in version 2?
Can you provide the file?

Thanks for confirming that for me!

But once open they are still one complete layer.  I can't get to the individual layers.

I can verify this is not related to the dialog I've provided above - opening a V1 file in V2 will open the document with all the layers it was saved with, and using either File > Save or File > Save As will not change this.

As requested above, can you provide some more information regarding the file you are opening, or provide a sample of this so we can investigate further? :)

Try dragging the Layers panel out of the Left hand studio. Or collapse some of the panels above and below it by double clicking on their names, Histogram and Navigator. I will wager they are there. It is just that the layers panel is too small to show them all.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
