Text box weird size with red dots

Recommended Posts

I created a picture frame and inserted the image of the whale.  Then I added a rectangle below it, converted to a text frame, and entered the caption.

a. Why is the text box so tall?  If I drag the handled to shrink it vertically, the text moves outside the text frame -- weird!  (See second screen shot below.) I also get the text overflow symbol, but there is no additional text; it's just the one word.  I have checked the paragraph settings and there is no space above.

b. What do the two empty circles mean?

OK, I found the answer (I think).  There was an inset at the top as shown in the Text Frame panel.  I have no idea how that got there; is that part of the paragraph style?  I edited the style in use but could see no setting for this.

Edit: spoke too soon.  I just added two more captions and ran into the same extra-tall text box problem.  For these two there is no indent shown in the Text Frame panel.

Check also in the Text frame panel that Ignore wrap and Ignore reference grid are both ticked, as it can cause text to be chased out of its box…

(I have no idea about the 2 red handles.)

I apologise for any approximations in my English. It is not my mother tongue.

Those indicate there is overflowing text in this Frame Text Text Frame. They are located where the (nonexistent) connections to earlier/previous and later/following text frames would be made.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

And they appear only when View > Show Text Flow is in effect, if I remember correctly.

Yes you do, thank you both of you.

And it's also only when the frame is not selected
