Trying to Reduce Shine on Face by using Pixel Layer not working ?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to reduce shine on a person's face in a Photo and I am trying to paint over the shiny areas with the surrounding colour on the skin and then use blend mode to reduce the shine.

I also have other layers including frequency seperation, so now when I try to reduce the shine on the pixel layer I have created for this I don't see any change. is it wrong with where I am placing the pixel layer as in the sequence or what ? Where do I need to place the pixel layer if I have a lot layers including frequency seperation

Hello @augustya,

from you description it is not easy to tell what is going wrong. If you are using the Stamp Tool to pick up colour from surrounding areas make sure you have selected as source 'current layer and below'. Otherwise you are picking up colour from an empty pixel layer.

Otherwise you might post a screenshot of the whole app window so we can try to see your situation.

Interesting observation and suggestion let me try and report back if it works.

Hey You know when I try to add a pixel and try to paint the hot spot the shiny areas in the surrounding coloutrs there is no source option available there ? And so it is still not working.

Here is the screenshot of how my layer panel looks

I am trying to follow this same step and method mentioned in this video at 4:01 and with all the other layers that I have (Screen Posted above) I am not getting any result when I perform this step nothing happens ?

Can anyone help me ? why is nothing happening for me ?

What tool are you using to paint in?

I would always put the pixel layer immediately above the original image. Thus all retouching gets the same processing by all layers above. That at least is my workflow.

I am not sure but it might be that some of the masks above the pixel layer are masking your painting away.

Can you perhaps post your workfile to look at it directly?

It could be your current brush settings in the Context Toolbar, e.g. brush size, opacity, blend mode, protect alpha …

To check if any layer above and below this pixel layer (e.g. the brightness/contrast adjustment) might reduce the visibility of your brush strokes, you can view this current pixel layer in an 'isolated' mode: Therefore click its layer thumbnail with the alt-/opt- key pressed. It will display this layer only without the need to change other layer's visibility in the Layers panel options.

Currently, the problem seems to be that the OP does not see a 'simple' brush stroke on a 'simple' pixel layer:

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but the method I suggested above is so simple, and yields good results with minimal clumsy hand painting, masking, or frequency separation.

You don't use the same settings for each image. The technique is the same for each image but the settings will vary

You need to find the right settings for your image or upload it so others can advise you what settings will (may) work in your specific case
