Koalan
So, I'm a total newb. I'm having issues with aligning text. Fyi, I'm formatting a book/novel. And I'm importing/placing the text from a word doc. I've been searching and I've watched videos, but nobody seems to be having my problem. The issue I'm having is that the line spacing on the top and on the bottom of the text box is uneven. As in, the distance with which the text starts and finishes randomly changes from page to page. Of course, I'm not referring to a page that finishes with text that only reaches half the page. But to pages with text that fills up the entire page or reaches the bottom. I think I've managed to fix the top by selecting "Keep with previous paragraph" and "Keep paragraph together." But the bottom sentences still end unevenly. Example (I'm using random numers): On page one, the sentence ends at 0.125 above the bottom of the text box, but on page two it ends flush with the bottom of the text box. Or just refer to the screenshot I attached. Both sentences of the screenshot are the last sentences of their respective pages. If I go with the align feature and justify vertically, well, it justifies the entire text. So the overall line spacing within my book ends up uneven and messes everything up. I also tried using the baseline grid but it didn't fix it. Help?
Old Bruce
This may be caused by using something other than Exactly leading values. Default, Percent, At Least, and Multiple have their uses but I prefer to use real fixed values. If you have 12 point type use 13 or 14 point leading. Make sure Baseline Grid is unchecked in the Definition. Use Align to Top for your Frame Text Text Frames. Use Text Frames on Master Pages and make certain that there is no offset on any of them. Get rid of Space Before and Space After in Text Styles. That means set them to 0 (zero) not [No Change]. Use the text caret to step through each paragraph and look at the Text Styles panel to see if any of your Paragraphs have over rides applied to them. Probably a dozen other things could be causing this. Best thing is to copy some text from your novel, three maybe four pages worth. Paste it into a new document and see if the problem persists. If it persists save the document as Problem.afpub and post that here. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
