eclecticthis
So I just updated to v2.2 and found that my opacity slider in my Color window/box in Affinity Photo has been replaced by a noise slider. The noise thing isn't something I have ever used and am not likely to use often, but I do change the opacity often (especially in gradients). Is there a setting somewhere so I can choose to have the opacity slider instead of the noise slider?
walt.farrell
That slider has always been dual-purpose. Click the word Noise or the well under it, and it should become Opacity again. eclecticthis 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Clicking the word noise does nothing for me, only clicking the well toggles between Noise & Opacity (Windows 11) walt.farrell 1 Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. I had no idea what a "well" was, but that led me to clicking around some more, clicking on the white circle worked, so I guess that's the well. I think it is called a "well" because it is reminiscent of an inkwell, although it makes more sense in the color wells like in the Color panel. Just switch and you will see the "switch between noise & opacity" without any harm. Especially for your profound, cromulent doubting skills I had posted the "Lock" example, where "it is unclear what is being locked". 🙃 Instead of arguing about tooltippoetry it maybe more useful for this thread and the OP to make missing options in other colour panels of Affinity UI more public and prepare new users this way for future surprises. For instance: How to set a text frame colour opacity to a specific value, say 35% ?(tooltip: "Swatch") Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

(BTW, "cromulent" means acceptable or adequate so I'm not sure you want to use that word to describe my doubting skills.) There are various discussions confirming that it's unclear in Affinity what gets locked with this button. If it is clear to you then by your experience, not by the tooltip. This tooltip just expresses the visible symbol as text and wouldn't be more or less clear if it would just say "Switch". 1 hour ago, R C-R said: "cromulent" means acceptable or adequate … and e.g. "fine, normal, excellent, realistic, legitimate or authentic". – "The schoolchildren of Springfield are watching a film about the founding father of Springfield, Jebediah Springfield. The film ends with Jebediah intoning, 'A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.' One teacher at the back of the room leans over to another and says that she’d never heard the word embiggen before she moved to Springfield. “I don't know why,” the other teacher replies. 'It's a perfectly cromulent word.' (…) The joke was so sly and subtle that as 'It's a perfectly cromulent word' was repeated, it wasn't necessarily clear to the hearer that it was a joke." https://www.merriam-webster.com/wordplay/what-does-cromulent-mean Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
