Massive problems with latest Update 2.2 for Publisher [merged]

Recommended Posts

This morning (20/09/2023) an update notification came through from Affinity, so I updated. Everything seemed fine, and I was working across all platforms. I finished work on an image in Photo and went back to Publisher. Only to discover the page I was working on, wouldn't appear, it's there in the folder. I tried opening another page, nothing. Tried opening a new one, nothing. I restarted the Mac, still nothing. Photo and designer are fine, pages appear. Tried contacting Affinity serif in Nottingham, but they were closed, time 3.45pm! Anybody else having the same problems?

Not sure what you mean about it being there in the folder. Do you mean in the Layers panel or something else?

Also, do you have the Pages panel open in APub? If so, is it completely empty? What do you see if you switch to the Photo persona?

Did you have an image in Publisher and go to File > Edit in Photo...?

If yes then you have to use File > Edit in Publisher... to get the image back to Publisher.

Like R C-R I am not sure what you mean by "it's there in the folder"

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

If there's more info you can give like;
What OS are you using?
Like the others here before asked, is the folder in the program is it on your harddrive or is it stored on a nas/lan/cloud or other external device?

I'm using macOs Ventura 13.5.2. On a MacBook Pro M2 (circa 2022). No, the folder is on the desktop of my Mac a place to keep documents, jpgs etc, it has got nothing to do with the program. You can see Affinity Publisher in the top bar of screen when clicked on, and you can go to open, but then it doesn't open. The other two Affinity (Photo & Designer) are working. Nothing has changed recently, only the yesterday's update 2.2 from Affinity.

Thanks for the extra info and perhaps a mac user is more proficient to help you further.
But providing a screencast/screenshots or perhaps an example document would certainly help.

Attached sequence Top bar Affinity Publisher, then I go to open, choose a file to open. Then nothing happens!

This is some way ambiguos. Don't you see pages (as initially stated) – or does the entire app not launch and therefore no main / layout window or pages panel?

No, tried both ways. Plus tried creating a completely new layout, that didn't work either

What does happen instead? What do you see if you click on an item in your "Affinity Publisher 2" main menu bar, on "File" for instance? Does any of the menus react on a click?

Just in case: Do you have an external / second monitor plugged?

@David Rich Just a thought.  I notice in your second screenshot that iCloud is showing the symbol which indicates that it is syncing your Mac with the cloud.  Could it be that process is taking some time?  If you download the file first, does Publisher then open it correctly?

The file is on the desktop, I'm not downloading from the cloud

Yes have click on the main menu bar, you do get a pop-up window. Then when you click to proceed to open, nothing happens. There are no external monitors plugged in.

Hi @David Rich,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble!

Unfortunately I'm either unsure of the exact behaviour you're experiencing, or I'm not able to replicate the reported issue - therefore I'd like to request a screen recording of the steps you're taking currently.

Please close Affinity Publisher, then begin your recording, launch the app and open your file, hopefully showing the issue you're reporting here.

Once you have launched the app and opened your file, please right-click on the Affinity app in your Dock and select 'Show All Windows' - as I'd like to see what is shown in your recording for this option also.

If you're unsure how to take a screen recording, please check out our FAQ linked below -

Many thanks in advance :)

Hi Dan. Here's the recording from my Mac, now the post limit has been removed. Since our last contact I transferred the afPUB doc I was working on, to my wife's mac and everything worked.

So I suspect my afPublisher is at fault. Tried looking at uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but when I logged into your site, it seemed to want me to purchase it again. As I didn't want to take that risk, thought I wait for your response.

On 0'11" and 0'34", it can be seen that actually your Desktop is synchronized on iCloud (which is not uncommon when working on macOS)…

Not sure if you've taken over from Dan. Anyway done it again, the command for show all windows is different on a Mac. But I did alternate between ;Shown all windows' and what I was doing. What do you mean it's synchronised with iCloud, shouldn't it be? And if, how do I unsync?. Here's second attempt recording.

Thanks

Oufti is a user (as am I). @Dan C is a Serif Staff member, as you can see from the markings on his posts.

Not yet. In both your videos you seem to quit the procedure before it could succeed.

In the first video you were searching for an image … but finally pressed "Cancel" instead.

The second video shows an already opened APub document but you just don't activate its window.

Anyway I solved it myself.

It might help other users who are having similar problems if you explained how you did that.
