Hi, I updated Affinity Publisher this morning, but now the stroke is not working. I'm just about ready to send my book off for publishing and had a few last minute additions to make. I'm wanting to put a stroke/border around some images to keep them consistent with the rest of the book. Does anyone know if this is a bug in the new update. I'm using Windows 11, on a desktop computer.

Thanks.

Hi @Jaypm55,

Could you possibly provide a little more information as to what's going wrong when you're attempting to add a stroke/border around your images? Are you applying a stroke to a picture frame or directly to an image layer?

If you could provide any screenshots/a screen recording/sample file with the problem, that would certainly help us in investigating further.

Many thanks!

When I go to select Stroke and choose the colour black or any colour for that matter, it won't change. I've also tried selecting the colour from the panel on the right to no avail. Thank youj.

Thanks, it's still a little difficult to tell what's going wrong since the screenshots are cropped, but I can see that the fill/stroke colour selectors appear off in the UI, could you send me a copy of your file? I've included a private upload link below.

My file is huge Nathan. I have images on the next page which I had done prior to the update. Now it just won't let me select the Stroke and change the colour.

Understandable, but it doesn't have to be the entire file, if you could even just strip the file down to a few pages and then send me a copy of one of the pages which you're running into the issue on that would be great.

Since I haven't been able to replicate the problem on a new file it would certainly help.

I've not exported a few pages of AP files before other than to a pdf. Or is that what you require?  Many thanks.

No - duplicate document with Save As, and delete few pages.

Trying another screenshot. This time with photos on the next page which a stroke applied.

For the selected object in your screenshot the Picture Frame seems to have a gray stroke assigned while the width of 1 pt may get covered by the blue interface bounding box*. The gray stroke colour appears to be similar to the strokes around the images on the spread below.

Can you show your entire screen, including the Colours + the Layers Panel, with an affected object selected + a stroke width larger than the blue interface stroke, and maybe another stroke colour than gray?

* Edit: you can hide the bounding box temporarily by pressing the space key

Thanks @thomaso It's greyed out because it won't let me change the colour. I've been using the stroke all the time and 1pt works for a neat thin line. But since I updated, it's won't allow me to add or change the colour of the stroke.

@NathanC I have uploaded a few pages as requested to your dropbox link. The first page is the one I'm trying to add a stroke to, the latter pages are the ones I've already applied a stroke before the update. Thank you.

You can however inadvertently make an image layer into a pixel layer and pixel layers can't have a stroke applied.

Thanks @Return except it's happening to several images I've added since the update, yet all the previous ones are ok. I'm not sure what I'm looking for, or how I would have done that on several images.

Have you perhaps set the Opacity to 0 (zero)?

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

For example - is this stroke color "disabled"?

No - it is grayed and thin. After 10pt.
