lphilpot
Usually, for example: Load an image, say, 2000x1000 pixels. Crop to 1500x800 pixels. Document | Clip Canvas The canvas is now 1500x800 pixels. But not always. For example, I was playing with someone else's image (with their permission) and cropped it: It cropped properly when I hit Enter. Then I clipped the canvas and got this: Really? If I, for example, select the Move tool and go to each layer, there are no outlines indicating some larger-than-the-rest entity causing the oversized canvas borders. All layers show the 'move outline' the same size as the visible image. So why the remaining area of transparency around the image (i.e., canvas)? Just out of curiosity, I selected Unclip Canvas. The area got larger. I then clipped canvas again and it stayed that size. ??? This is where the GIMP (e.g.) "Fit canvas to layers" and crop options seem more logical (in particular "Delete cropped pixels"). I'm sure PS has comparable items. And BTW, I'm not comparing AP to GIMP nor PS, it's just a convenient example. I'm certainly not assuming a bug (...yet) since I probably don't fully understand how Clip / unclip works. But what am I missing? Thanks. Timespider
I'm not sure if this helps or is the same issue. I too have had issues with what you are saying (sometimes). I find if I select a different document tab(if another is open) or open a browser or select a different app then go back to affinity the canvas is clipped. I have this similar issue in the resize document as well, where the resize doesn't happen until I follow the steps I suggested above, even though the resize dialog box is closed & finished. This only started happening in version 2. Quote Motto - STUPID HURTS!

If one wants destructively crop one needs to use rasterize and trim. Timespider
Staff NathanC Posted September 20, 2023 Staff Share Posted September 20, 2023 Hi @lphilpot, It's possible the issue has been caused by independent adjustment layers on your image, there is an issue currently logged with the developers with non-nested/clipped adjustment layers will cause the clip to canvas to fail as Photo assumes that adjustment layers are the size of the canvas when not nested, I've bumped the existing issue. I've tried that and the extra canvas remains. According to the AP Help, Clip Canvas should remove extraneous unused canvas: https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/SizeTransform/canvasSize.html?title=Changing canvas size Quote Len Affinity Photo 2 | QCAD 3 | FastStone | SpyderX Pro | FOSS: ART darktable XnView RawTherapee Inkscape G'MIC LibreOffice Windows 11 on a 16 GB, Ryzen 5700 8-core laptop with a cheesy little embedded AMD GPU Canon T8i / 850D | Canon EF 24-70mm F4L IS USM | Canon EF 70-200mm F4 L USM | Rikenon P 50mm f/1.7 | K&F Concept Nano-X filters ...desperately looking for landscapes in Nolandscapeland Flickr
