Publisher 2.2 How do I hide layer effects?

Hi Anto,

they should be found under View > View Mode > Hide Effects :)

Thanks
C

I think he means on a per-layer-basis and not ALL FX at once. A quick toggle like for visibility would be nice.

This states the same as the quote I mentioned previously "All layer effects"  there is nothing in that article that suggests you can now toggle layer effects for specific objects.

It must be the translator. For me, it's clearer this way: All layers effects

It's the part before your underlined part that is clearly stating the opposite as to what you think should happen.
"You now can choose to toggle the to hide all  layer effects"

@Callum  On windows online help it states any instead of all though.

I'm not sure why it says any on Windows however to me that still reads as it toggling off all layer effects.

Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.

Maybe it is just me, but Hide Effects (Effekte ausblenden) seems to be completely missing in the German local help files or it is the error I get presented?

Edit: This part seems to be also missing in the German online help files.

Hmmm. For me on my Mac using US English, it shows as View > View Mode > Draw Effects, & it appears to be backwards -- IOW, if that is ticked then no FX are shown; if not, they are.

Apparently, someone changed the word Hide to Draw, and forgot the change of meaning and thus the completely illogical control 🙂
Just for interest - in Windows, the following icon can appear on the Context Toolbar,

which clearly indicates switching off and therefore "hiding" effects. How are you doing on macOS?

On my Mac the icon & its name are the same as you show, so it is just that the word "Draw" in the View > View Mode  menu is wrong & should say "Hide."

Hopefully @Callum will catch it and pass it on for correction 🙂

I would like to add one more request - currently you can use icons for Advanced View mode and then individual icons for Grayscale and Hide Effect, which takes up unnecessary space.

Would it be possible to add one more icon pack for all modes - for example, Extended View mode, or complement the existing Advanced? This would save space on the Context Tool bar.

First, thanks for pointing out that there is an Advanced View Mode item! I had not noticed that.

Second, I think yours is a good idea -- the AD Toolbar on my Mac is getting very full already so anything that reduces how much space they need would help.

No wasteful space is inserted when I put all 6 view buttons in the Toolbar on macOS. In fact, the sliver of space that should be between the fifth and sixth buttons is missing.

Try it with the toolbar set to show both icons & text & UI Font Size set to large, like this:

Even if the UI Font Size is set to the default, there is still a lot of empty space.

WTF!

FWIW, the menu item is Hide Effects on my Mac using UK English.

This is what I get with US English:

viewmodemenu.jpg.6d873a753c22a196bae8e4c66861d124.jpg

EDIT: I just tried switching to UK English & there it shows Hide Effects, so it appears just to be an issue with the US English version.

@Callum: There are a couple of items in this thread that seem like bugs. Do they need to be reported in the Bugs forum, or can you log them (if appropriate) from here?

Specifically: The Help error noted in https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/191869-publisher-22-how-do-i-hide-layer-effects/&do=findComment&comment=1124172

and the menu difference noted in https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/191869-publisher-22-how-do-i-hide-layer-effects/&do=findComment&comment=1125083

Hi all,

I have logged the inconsistency between the US English and English wording of this feature to be fixed with our developers. I'm struggling to find the missing help page here at my end would someone be able to provide the English equivalent of the missing German page just so I can be sure I'm looking for the correct one?

Thanks
C
