Gaussian blur and transparency missing on export

Recommended Posts

Elements of my design are being lost on export: background shapes that I've applied gaussian blur or transparency to are completely GONE in the exported image.

I've tried just about every one of the export presets to no avail, including those that claim to flatten. Export to png worked just fine the first time I tried it as a proof, but subsequent exports have the problem I've described above. Any idea what I might have done to cause this to happen?

Thanks, I've PMd you the file. I'm trying to export to jpeg, but I'll be happy with pdf. Just need a format that will show my design as intended (it's on artboard 3 of the file I linked to) when printed by the local copy shop.

I ended up recreating the design in Illustrator - pity. Still haven't got to the bottom of it, and I really hope it doesn't happen again in future work; I need to be able to rely on the software I use to export properly.

Here is a public link to a stripped down version of the file in question (personal details and photos removed) in case anyone would like to have a go at getting it to export properly. Thanks in advance for your insights.

Hello Misc33,

I rasterized the "Stripy background" group (right click on it in layer palette and select 'rasterize') and the image exported to a jpeg fine (notice the text is off, as I didn't have the font you used and it needed to be substituted).

I suspect this is a bug though, and perhaps has something to do with the fact that the "stripy background" layers are larger than (and not fully contained by) the artboard?

That is most certainly not a bug, but a feature …  ;)

Seems you exported your file through Export Persona, misc 33. Now, please be aware that the Layers Panel of Export Persona is independent of the Layers Panel of Draw Persona. The advantage of this implementation lies in the fact that you can easily rearrange and hide layers for export without compromising your actual design.

Now, please go to the Layers Panel in Export Persona, and you will see that the layers of your document are rearranged in a way, such that the backgrounds you assigned are not contained within the artboard intended for export. They do not show up as children of this very artboard. And therefore they are missing in the final result.

But here are two simple solutions:

  • Rearrange the layers in the Layers Panel of Export Persona.
  • Export through File > Export.

Hope that helps …  :)

Alex

That's very helpful, thank you both! I was not aware that you could export without using the Export Persona. Good to know.

Really? That worked for me, as you can see below …

But on closer examination, you will see that the layers structure is compromised in the Draw Persona as well. You can see from the (missing) indentation, that the background layers aren’t children of “Artboard 3,” but are artboard-independent layers. So to ensure correct export, I would suggest making these layers children of the mentioned artboard.

Hope that makes sense …  :)

Or... on File > Export make sure the "area" dropdown says "Whole document"? (there is only one artboard in this case.....)

The irony is that in AP the Live Filter Gaussian Blur (and all Live Filters I believe) are in fact broken on export to PDF.

(I'm biting my tongue (I guess it didn't work  ;) ) until Monday when the next Beta is expected....)

Thank you so very much for your time, this is excellent! I am blown away by the freely given support as I launch my craft away from the (apparent) safety of well known Adobe shores.
