PDF file doesn't show document's actual size

Recommended Posts

I've designed a business card and I need to export it as a PDF document for printing. My printing lab asked me to add the card's actual dimensions (85mm x 55mm) into the document, but I couldn't find the way to do so.

The only shown information related to document size is resolution (240 x 156), which doesn't help me in this particular case.

How do I add 85mm x 55mm into the document, so that when printing, the printer automatically knows how large or small the print should be?

Thank you!

Hi @Arttu,
welcome to the Affinity Forums!

There is no technical need nor a specific place within the layout and the app interface to literally add the page dimensions manually as text inside your document or an exported print PDF.

The page dimensions will be saved with the exported PDF. The values "240 x 156" is the equivalent of 85 x 55 millimetres in points (pt), the default unit of PDF. If you open your exported PDF in Affinity and activate the ruler you will see "pt" in the upper left corner of the ruler, where you also may choose "mm" or another unit. The set unit will not alter the document nor will it get saved as a preferred unit with the layout on export.

Possibly the print service simply wants you to add "85x55" to the file name. This will also appear to the printer service if they add printer marks in their pre-press workflow which will include the file name.

Although you might place custom text in the "Fields" panel > "Document Information" > "Comments" and save with your document this will be noticed rather unlikely by the print service provider. If you like it might not harm to ask the people in what way they want to get the page dimensions added to the PDF.
