Topaz Ai Photo not showing up as a plugin in AP2

Recommended Posts

Hello, im having trouble getting affinity photo 2 and Topaz Photo Ai to integrate. Ive emailed topaz support but havent gotten much response yet so i figured i would ask here. This very well might be a topaz issue as i just got their latest software update.

ive never used topaz before in affinity until trying now..

For computer i have an intel imac with 32 gigs of memory
And also a MacBookPro M2 with 16 gigs and have the issue on both of them..

What i did was, go into affinity photos settings, go to photoshop plugins and click the checkbox for “allow unknown plugins to be used”
When i do that, topaz doesnt show up, but from what i read on the topaz website, they should show up after i click that check box.

In the affinity settings, if i chose the option “plugin search folders”, then add the topaz app into there, they show up in the “detected plugin” menu and they show up as plugins but whenever i try to use them i get the error in the screenshot.

just curious if anyone has had a similar issue as this.

My version of affinity photo is from the apple app store. Not sure if that is relevant but thought i would mention it.

hopefully someone has experience with this issue :)

Hi @Mogadishu,

Thanks for your report!

Firstly, I can confirm that you are not the first user to report an issue since the latest update of Topaz 2.0 and as the Affinity apps have not been updated recently, this indicates an issue with the Topaz update - rather than the Affinity app itself.

As can be seen on the Topaz forums, other Affinity users are reporting errors since updating & one user has provided a potential solution - though the file locations provided are for Windows and not macOS, so you may need to adjust this suggestion to suit:

https://community.topazlabs.com/t/topaz-photo-ai-v2-0-0/51395/118

Secondly, I can see you are editing an 'Apple Photos Document', which I believe should work with plugins, but may also be causing an additional error. It may be worth selecting a regular image file through File > Open to see if this changes the Plugins behaviour.

Should you still be having trouble after trying the above, I'd recommend awaiting Topaz supports response, as they should be able to assist further.

I hope this helps :)

Thanks for responding.
i am able to use topaz as a plugin with apple photos so its all good there.

i figured that this is a topaz issue but their support hasnt been too helpful as if yet. Im sure with their new release, they have their hands full at the moment.

i will check out that link you posted to see if i can apply it to my scenario.
ill post back here if it works.

I figured it out so I wanted to update here just incase someone else has this issue...

So I had read on another forum that in order for topaz to work in affinity, you had to install the software directly from the affinity website.

In my case, I had installed it from the App Store. I initially didn't think that should matter but I tested it out and it actually is the case.

After installing directly from the Affinity website, I added the plugin under settings, photoshop plugins, "plugin search folders".

After that I was able to use topaz photo ai as a plugin with no problems.

Hopefully that helps someone :)
