bobdobbs Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 (edited) Im using Designer 2. I've created a set of shapes within a layer group. I now want to paint colors within the shapes using the Vector Brush Tool. When I create an object with the brush tool, in the layers panel I can see that the newly created layer has lept out of the currently selected layer group and is now positioned at the very top of the stack: above all existing layers. This completely messes with my illustration. I can select the newly created layer and drag it into the previously selected layer group. But moving my attention back to the layer panel messes with my workflow. This is exacerbated because I have to search through the layers while dragging the new layer into position. Ideally I'd like to be able to create a new object within the layer group that I have selected. This seems to be the intuitive way of doing things. carl123 Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Are you using Designer and using the Vector Brush Tool to paint on a Group Layer? Sorry, I should have been clearer - I'll edit my post. Yes, I'm using designer and using the Vector Brush Tool to create an object. Quote
Staff NathanC Posted September 7, 2023 Staff Posted September 7, 2023 As far as I'm aware this can only be accomplished with 'Layer' type layers, if you select your group and go to the layers menu (along the top) and then select 'promote to layer', any subsequent curve objects created will automatically become nested in the layer so long as it is selected in the layers panel. This works when you don't select a group, but rather any object within the group. Then any shapes you create will be inserted into the group. bobdobbs and NathanC 2 Quote
