Furry Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Using Designer 1.10.6 on a 2019 iMac with OS 10.14.6. When I drag an image from the Stock Panel (Pixalbay) onto my document, all that happens is a little window appears telling me the source of the graphic (which it calls a photo, even though it is a vector illustration). There is no sign of the graphic itself. This does not happen with every graphic but it is happening with the one I want. Is there something I should know? Quote Main machine is 2024 24" iMac running Sequoia 15.2 with 8GB of RAM. Also have 2022 12" Macbook Air also running Sequoia 15.2, also with 8GB of RAM. On the side I have a 2019 27" iMac running Mojave 10.14.6 because that is the last OS that lets me run Adobe software without getting dragged into the subscription spiderweb.

Furry Posted September 7, 2023 Author Posted September 7, 2023 (edited) Thanks for your quick reply, carl123. Here are two screen shots, ScreenShot 1 showing the top section of my Stock panel and the highlighted image (the first one in the panel) is the one I want. ScreenShot2 shows the little notice that appears – and that is all that appears. The Layers panel shows no addition. And, of course, this web site has shown them in the opposite order! Circulus Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 I tried it and also couldn't get that vectorfile to appear too, some others I could like it should. Workaround is to drag it to the UI(only V2) instead of the canvas and it will open in a newtab instead of on your opened document/canvas. Now you can copy paste the objects from the newtab to your document. Quote I think Serif wants us to be only creative in finding workarounds to use their tools. Ron P. Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 I can confirm what @Furry is reporting. However I can successfully drag the vector without an new file open, ie; blank. This is true for several of the vectors. I'm thinking it maybe on Pixabay's side, not Affinity. FWIW, I tried using the current Beta, finding the same in those. Circulus Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 It's an AI file That is probably why it is struggling with it as it only supports the pdf stream. Dan C Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Hi @Furry, Thanks for your report! I can confirm I'm able to replicate this behaviour here and it is logged with our dev team as a bug - I believe due to the fact this is an .Ai file on Pixabay, as Return has mentioned. I've 'bumped' the development report with your thread now and we hope to have this addressed in a future update Quote
Furry Posted September 7, 2023 Author Posted September 7, 2023 Thank you all for your replies. I am glad Dan C has 'bumped' the matter. I am not sure, Return, what you mean by drag to the UI. I tried dragging it to the title slot at the top of the Designer "window" and to the Designer icon in the dock, but in each case nothing happened. I don't think so, as the vector AI one isn't freely downloadable here (without a sign-up to the pixabay website) in contrast to the PNG versions. - You can crosscheck in a webbrowser. That isn't working for me on my Mac in AD V1. No matter where I drag it in the app's UI it just jumps back into the Pixabay panel. It does work in AD V2 (& it works also by dragging it into an open document), which I assume is why it is working for @Return but not the OP who is using version 1.10.6. 5 hours ago, v_kyr said: I don't think so, as the vector AI one isn't freely downloadable here (without a sign-up to the pixabay website) in contrast to the PNG versions. - You can crosscheck in a webbrowser. FWIW, I did sign up & previously log into Pixabay but I am not currently logged in. Nevertheless, in AD V2 when I drag the file into the workspace it loads either as an embedded document (if dragged into an open document) or as a Layer (if dragged into an empty workspace window). Either way, it is full of 260 or so editable vector objects -- IOW, it is not a PNG version. If a login is required, it should not be possible to load any other vector file also, but it does. I tried with some others from that same list and double clicking opens the pixabay site and if trying to download a vector version it asks for my login. But could download the vector version as listed in the affinities. 26 minutes ago, R C-R said: That isn't working for me on my Mac in AD V1. Overlooked the part where the OP stated that v1 was in use and indeed this functionality isn't in version1. It's just strange that some vectors load and others don't. Just double click the thumbnail and go to the file on the pixabay site and join/login to download it, is the best option in this case, I guess. That's an iStock shared one and behaves like I previously said, this vector one on the site visit via a webbrowser always asks after a login in order to be downloaded, the PNGs do not. I can not get/fetch that vector one in ADe v1 and also probably can not download it without a login to the site via a webbrowser (...which I haven't done/tried, as it's pretty uninteresting for me to have an account there on that site)! I didn't said that it's not a vector version, all I said is, that this one can't be fetched for me (via ADe v1) and even if I visit the site with it in a webbrowser, I would need to have an account and perform then a login there, in order to be able to download that AI vector one from iStock shared image entry. In contrast to the vector one, the PNG formats for that drawing there, are downloadable from the site without any needed site login.
