I am unable to change the black background setting which is very uncomfortable for my eyes. I have been going to the Affinity Designer Logo/Settings/User Interface and tried adjusting the sliders on the Background Grey Level and the Art Board Background and restarted my machine but nothing is happening, Can  you help? I am using a MacBook Pro with an M1 chip with Ventura 13.4.1  and Affinity Designer 2.2.1 Eula.

I would be really grateful so some help with this,

Hi @Pippabird and welcome to the forums,

Those two sliders will only have an effect if you have a document open, e.g., a blank document. Are you seeing the same issue with a document open or have you been adjusting the sliders with no document open, hence seeing no change?

Many thanks for this. Opening a  blank document did the trick.  Now I have another problem trying to bring a symbol object to the front. The drop gown menu with "Bring All to Front is  greyed out as is also the Arrange menu. Can you please rescue me again ?

Hi @Pippabird,

I'm glad you managed to sort the background colour...

Regarding your 'invisible' symbol, the problem is that you have your 'Pattern Preview' Artboard nested inside your 'Pattern Tile Artboard' Artboard. If you unnest it by either clicking and dragging the 'Pattern Preview' Artboard to the left until you see the little blue rectangle to the left of the symbol icon or by dragging the 'Pattern Preview' Artboard above the 'Pattern Tile Artboard' in the Layers panel so both appear on the same level, that should fix your issue...
