Publisher and Designer take up a lot of CPU when opening SVG, and load very slowly, over 10 minutes for 600 KB files.

Recommended Posts

The software takes up more than 10% of the CPU as soon as it starts, now I can only convert  to AI format first and then import it into publisher, and the computer configuration is:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor                  4.20 GHz

RAM:32GB

SYS:64 windows11 23H2

file:5s.svg

This is the software performance setting.

If you can load that SVG file to the forum we can determine if it is something in that SVG file or your PC

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Thanks

It appears to be something with that SVG file as it's still loading on my PC with high (55% CPU and memory usage

I don't know enough about SVG files to analyse them in depth but now we have the file someone else should be able to figure out what is going on with it

Just check back later for more updates to this thread

@Dan CUpdated videos and files.

Did you post this in the right topic? Dan hasn't been involved in this one.

Yeah, he's not involved, but I wish he'd can see this, maybe this isn't appropriate.

It's generally considered improper to tag a Serif staff member who hasn't been involved in a topic already, and Serif has requested we not do that.

I've opened the file in Inkscape, saved as pdf and that opens ok in Publisher.
Can't you export to pdf instead of svg?

Not sure if this matters but I see a pair of characters in line 14 when I open this in BBEdit.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

5s.pdf 94.15 kB · 1 download

Many files saved as PDF may have problems, and many files are obtained as SVG, and it is no longer possible to verify the format of the source file.

@DicownedHawk The SVG file isn't opening in our apps for me on macOS or Windows as our importer is having issues reading the contents. I've opened it in AI and saved it back to SVG, this version does then open in our apps as normal.

This is what I do. Even if I use AI to convert to SVG again, it may be too laggy stuck. The best effect is to use AI format and place it.

That should be equivalent to using PDF format, as the Affinity applications cannot read native AI data. They can only use the PDF embedded in the AI file when you tell Illustrator to save in compatibility mode.
