Hello,
I searched the forum and internet, but did not find any good answer to this question.
I am used to old Photoshop from more than 10 years ago, and Affinity looks like a good replacement.
But some basic operations seems really complex.

So the scenario is:
- I open a photo
- I select a part of my image that I must export as a JPG so an external (AI) program can process it
=> for that, I use the recangle marquee tool and use "new from clipboard", then export, it works nicely
- I process my "part of image"
- now I want to paste it back exactly where I cut it from. My marquee tool selection is still visible. I just want to paste something here, right here.
But I can't it seems. Tried different methods, none works. With PS, I just... paste and that's all.

So I have to move the pasted layer, zoom in to the maximum to be sure it is pixel precise... so a big waste of time.
This is too bad because I am doing this tons of times... the process could be ultra fast if only you could paste where your selection is...

If not possible, this is a total show stopper for me, I use this "paste in place" so many times when using external AI to retouch parts of my image...
I am really looking for solutions, thanks !

Just thinking that maybe if you could use markers, and then move the "pasted" image so that it can be easily "snapped", that would be ok.
But I did not find anything that really works...

You can set the snapping rules to Snap to pixel selection bounds so you can set guides at say the top & left of the selection marquee then use those to paste the revised work back
There is no equivalent of Photoshop Paste Into

Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe
Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10

Thanks David!
So I was not too far with my idea of snapping, cool!
Now I just have to try it; even if it is some extra operations, this is acceptable I guess.

EDIT: well it works, but man, what a convoluted process, instead of just... "Ctrl-V" !!

Another way...

1. CTR+J to duplicate the selection
2. CTRL+C to copy it
3. File > New from Clipboard

4. (Export and do your AI stuff)

5. Copy & Paste back to affinity document

Pasted image will now snap directly on top of duplicate image done in step 1 above, when you move it over it

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Hi Carl, thanks for your answer;

these steps are exactly what I did ... but I don't get the "when you move it over it" that seems to be exactly what I need.
Once "pasted", what tool do you use to "move" the pasted image and make it snap?

EDIT: no way, it worked!! In fact, as the initial selection disappears, and as it can snap at various places, I thought it was not working, but it is.
Thanks, thanks!! So now the workflow is way faster!

The Move Tool, just make sure the previous selection (marching ants) is not active
