"New layer" default shortcut -> new document

Recommended Posts

In the Layer menu, there is no shortcut shown for New Layer (new vector Layer).  In the settings, under Shortcuts, there is a default of Option-Command-N on the Mac.  However, when I type that, it creates a new document, with some default presets.

If I change the shortcut to, for instance Option-N, then that shortcut will work properly and be shown in the Layer Menu.  If I type the default Option-Command-N chord to set the shortcut back to the default, there's no warning icon that it's already assigned to something like New-Document-with-default-presets.

This happens actually both in AD 2.1 and the 2.2 beta.

I'm not a Mac user, but in Windows, CTL + N is the shortcut for New Document, and it works as it should in all Affinity Apps.

CTL + Shift + N is the shortcut for New Layer, and it also works as it should.

So perhaps a Mac thing?

Actually it creates a new document with the last used settings.

Good catch. I cannot find where the Command + Option + N for the (I guess default or hardwired) New document with previous settings is set.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

There is a slot for it in the Settings for Shortcuts, with the others for the File menu, on Windows. There's no default assigned for the File action, though.

On Designer 2.2.0.1954, Ctrl+Alt+N is New Layer (from the Layer menu) and Ctrl+Shift+N is New Pixel Layer, by default.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for letting us know. I've reproduced this issue and passed it on to development to be looked at.
