My tools and context bar are not persistent.

Recommended Posts

This is causing major frustration with my Affinity experience.   I love the app so much and am pretty sure that i am missing something but ever since i. upgraded to 2, my tools and context bar, which i spent a lot of time ( customizing serveral times before giving up) reset to the default organization.  So each time i go to use Affinity I have to customize all over again, I'm sure I am missing something and have searched through the menus and help topics and can't seem to find anything on this topic except for views, and studio workspace configurations- which both seem like they might save my tool, etc. configuration but they do not.  I am very disappointed and a seasoned user of Affinity and a high degree of computer knowledge and think it shouldn't be so hard to figure this out, I'm sure it is possible to do so maybe I have a bug or conflict and I need help figuring out what is happening and how to correct the problem.

First, for things like this it would be helpful to know if you are using the Mac or Windows version & which Affinity app(s) you are using.

Also, consider that that the Context Toolbar cannot be customized (its contents change depending on the tool & context) so it may be that you are talking about the main toolbar, the one with File, Edit, Text & so on on it, the one that by default has the Persona icons on it & other items that vary depending on the app & the current persona.

You should be able to create & recall Studio Presets (via the Window > Studio menu items), so it is not clear why this is not working for you, nor why the last used preset is not 'sticky' but resets to some default (?) configuration.

One thing I've found important: After you configure Tools, or the Toolbar, or the Studios, you need to make sure you successfully close the application. If the application crashes before you close it, the configuration changes are not saved.

Something else that might be useful to know is how the Affinity app(s) were installed & where (what folder) it/they are in, & if the user's home folder has any unusual restrictions on what can be saved in it.

What makes them "seem" to save your changes – when, on the other hand, they don't ?

Can you notice a change in the modification date of the related preference files in their according Affinity system folder once you did a change + closed the app?

Are other custom settings saved, such as swatches & palettes, assets, or brushes?
