[suggestion] Paragraph composer to keep together one-letter prepositions in Czech and possibly other languages

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

this thread has been recommended to me as a correct place to suggest new functions, so here it is 🙂 It would be a great help. if you were to rework the paragraph composer for Czech, and possible also other languages, to consider tying orphan prepositions like "v, k, u, s, z, o" (UPPER as well as lower case) to the next word, so that they don't end up hanging at the end of line. The same goes for "A (upper case only) and i, I" (just they are not prepositions).

Thank you, have a nice day!

FYI this is an issue in English, too.

Right, and Italian, Spanish, Polish and pretty much any other Slavic language... (and more).

It's quite surprising, that this is not yet a feature, given how long it hangs there in the suggestions. An ideal implementation would be with a checkbox to allow it in the style, and an option to define, which letters should be considered orphans. Because for example, a letter "a" is in English clearly an article and therefore an orphan, should it be separated from the name it's linked to. However, in Czech, the lower case "a" is a conjunction, which can remain at the end of the line. But with upper case "A" it looks just wrong, so it would be ideal to be able to define this in the style, or maybe also globally, but only in connection with the text language.
