Any recent upgrades to Publisher v1?

Recommended Posts

I use this software fairly infrequently and have noticed some janky behaviors cropping up recently. For instance, I will click out of a text or image box and a phantom box, minus the content, will show up in a slightly different position. I will delete a box and the outline will still appear. Highlighted text boxes will appear then disappear with the same cadence as the cursor. it is as though my layout is actively trying to evade the selection tool. Has there been an update to Publisher v1 to fix these problems?

I am using a MacBook Pro, MacOS Venture 13.4.1. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Updates to V1 applications will be very rare, as it is stabilized since the V2 release, and probably only for issues that prevent the application from running due to OS changes.

You can see the latest releases here:

As Walt mentioned V1 won't get updates any more to fix old known bugs (… but new ones only if they are triggered by a new operating system version). Means V1 users have to live with a bunch of known issues even though some of them were logged to get fixed for several years.

It seems your issue is similar to this one for instance:

… which was known already when it got reported (but didn't get a bug tag/number in its thread):

I've previously seen redraw issues in Publisher, whereby it's possible to see the bounding boxes for objects on an incorrect page (for example, the bounding box of a text frame on page one, appearing on page 2)

Whereas this report appears to be about a similar issue that happens in V2 only but not in V1:

A similar issue may also occur if you drag an item from the Asset panel to a page that is not directly next to the Asset panel. Note the temporary occurrence of the dragged item on TWO layout pages + page icons. Different to the end of this clip sometimes the dragged item gets placed on the page that is next to the asset panel even if the mouse button gets released on the wanted page.

It appears that you are no longer offering bug fixes to your v1 products, true?

That is what Serif have said, yes.

Note that @thomaso and I are users not Serif staff, but their position has been clear since the release of the V2 applications. Minimal bug fixes only, and basically just to keep the application running on updated OSes.

Just to confirm, the above issue (reported as AFB-4931 & AFB-5838) was affecting V1 only and has been resolved in V2. If this is the issue the OP is experiencing, then unfortunately the only option is to upgrade at this time.

They may want to consider our V2 upgrade offer, from the Affinity Store.

As you've mentioned, this is a V2 only bug and therefore can't be experienced by OP in V1.

In my testing, this does not appear to occur in V2 either and appears to be a V1 issue only.

Our official stance on V1 updates are as follows:

"While V1 will no longer receive any feature updates, we will endeavour to fix any critical issues which may be caused by operating system updates for as long as is reasonable to do so."

I hope this clears things up :)
