Selecting Objects on a page?

Recommended Posts

After using Adobe InDesign since CS1 I'm trying hard, but struggling to adapt to Publisher.

I have a simple question but can't find an answer in the help files or online:

I want to select a number of objects (text and/or images) that sit together on a page.

With InDesign I drag the Selection tool around the objects, they're all selected and I can move, copy, delete etc.

How to this in Publisher? Is this a stupid question?

Thanks

Use the Move Tool.

Help (for V2): https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/pages/ObjectControl/select.html

To find that in the Help, type Select into the Search field.

With the Move Tool selected, you can also refer to the Status bar at the bottom of the document window, which will give you a brief description of how the tool can be used. It changes dynamically depending on if something is selected or not.

It sounds like you are asking whether you can ‘lasso-select’ layers by dragging a non-rectangular shape around them.
If you are asking whether this is possible then the answer is no.

You can do that for nodes of a curve by using the Node Tool, or you can do that for pixels of a pixel layer via the Freehand Selection Tool in the Photo Persona (when available, if you also have Photo installed), but you can’t do it for layers.

This is something which has been requested before, e.g.: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/175191-please-add-a-freehand-lasso-selection-tool-for-vector-objects-in-designer-and-publisher/

Are these objects part of Page or Master page? Aren't they locked?

The objects are part of a page, NOT a Master Page. They're not locked - unless objects are locked by default when they're created.

Publisher makes little sense to me: I've been using Adobe for so many years that I think I need to start all over again. Back to the tutorials!

Thanks to those who have responded.
