Publisher file crashing app after opening

Recommended Posts

When I open the book I’m working on (in APub 2.1.1) it opens, but then immediatly APub crashes.

I tried opening in Publisher 2.2 beta and Designer 2.1 as well, but with the same result.

Started a new file and tried ‘Add Pages from File…’, but the resulting new file also crashes the application after opening.

Breaking the link to the folder with linked files doesn’t make a difference.

Is there anyone out there who has any ideas on what I could try next? Help is much appriciated.

Crash report attached.

Can you upload the file to the forum?

If not, you will need to wait for a moderator to give you an upload link and for one of them to repair it

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Well, why not?

Had to zip the APub file, it wouldn't upload.

FWIW, your file also crashes APub V2 on my Mac running Catalina.

Please could you try the copy of your file found in the below DropBox link? to see if it also crashes for you?

FWIW also, I tried for myself to open this copy. I had just the time to see it was written in Dutch then Publisher crashed immediately (v.2.1.1 on Monterey 2.6.7).

I keep the crash report at your disposal, but forgot how to send it in case it can help?

Thank you @thomaso.

I already got it: ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Affinity Publisher 2 Affinity Store-2023-08-04-020426.ips.

I remember having read here — but where? — a topic explaining how, and when, to "pack and send" these reports.

It needs to be packed ? … or do you mean not copy/pasted as text into a reply window? (which indeed is screen space demanding pixel waste)

What happens if you drag a ".crash" or ".ips" file to the forum's window? And if packed, why not simply zipped?

@Callum Many thanks for your help.

Apologies for my late response. I tried your file today, and it crashes the apps as well. But you found that out already.

I have finished this project meanwhile. I still had the original chapter files and used those to export pdf files which were fitted together in Pdf Studio Pro.

The file that caused problems is one in which I copy/pasted the contents of the separate chapter files. I was able to export a pdf once, after that crashes occurred.

So why did I not export from the book file? Well that simply doesn't work. Clicking the export button resulted in a crash every time. The first time I used the book file, it hung every time during export. So I have given up on using the book file. But that's something for a different thread.

The issue "Attached file crashes Affinity Publisher on open" (REF: AFB-8175) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.2.0.1951".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.
