can't see dropdown menus when clicking on mask button

I'm using a macbook  with Affinity Photo 1.10.6 and for some reason I don't get these dropdowns when clicking on the mask button.  Is there a setting I'm missing?

In some of the instructional videos I have seen, a dropdown menu appears showing new mask, new empty mask, and maybe one or two more (they go by quickly so hard to read them).   I now wonder if they are using the new version 2 Affinity Photo.

Yes. Version 2 adds several new types of mask.

Other mask types

Apart from the default mask and empty mask, Affinity Photo 2 introduces additional masking options. These are available via the Layers panel and offer more control over the edit depending on the desired workflow and outcome.

The following additional mask types are available:

• Compound Mask—a powerful masking system that uses boolean operators to combine masks non-destructively.
• Luminosity Range Mask—a live, non-destructive mask that targets pixels based on their luminosity value.
• Hue Range Mask—a live, non-destructive mask that targets pixels based on hue.
• Band-pass Mask—a live, non-destructive mask that targets pixels based on a configurable frequency band, used in a range of sharpening techniques.

Clicking on the Mask button to get the drop-down was only there for a short time in V2

After feedback, they changed it to right-clicking the Mask button (V2)

(On windows, not sure about Macs)

In AP V2 on my Mac, these mask options are available by Option-clicking on the Mask button in the Layers panel, & also on the Layer menu.

In V1 an option-click creates an inverted / empty mask – where is this option in V2 then? The help says, option-click creates an empty mask – but also it mentions a pop-up menu on option-click for the new mask types:

"Hold <option> and (…) click Mask Layer"

"click Mask Layer whilst pressing <option>"

The Help was not updated for the late-breaking changes in how the function worked during the beta. Serif is aware of that.

In V2, on Windows, it's an Alt+Click on the Mask icon, or a right-click and select Empty Mask. Or it's done through the Layer menu.

It is one of the choices when Option-clicking on the Mask button in the Layers panel:

It isn't worded as well as it could be but what it says (for Macs) is:

• Hold ⌥ key and (at the bottom of the panel) click Mask Layer to choose the option.

So it is not saying option-clicking creates an empty mask, just that it opens the above popup menu.
