Hey,

Another one from Affinity TV. This we take a look at how you can use a new extension which enables you to store your pictures inside of Apple Photos edit in Affinity Photo and have those changes automatically save back for you. Something we haven't been able to do since iPhoto got replaced with Photos. So, excited about this one because of that.

We also take a look at how you can use the Smart Albums inside the app to organise your pictures.

Using Apple Photos with Affinity Photo Tutorial

Enjoy,

Allan

Hello,

With this extension we can only work with a JPEG and then this is the flatten image witch goes back in Photo.

When a RAW file is sent from Photo to Affinity Photo, then choose the share option "add to Photo" but it becomes a JPEG !!

That is correct. You will have to export out of Affinity photo if you want to have RAW as the output.

Good video Allan (as always!)
I also found this extension a month or so back and would note that with the External Editors For Photos extension if you open it directly from within the Applications folder on it’s own, you will get a popup preferences window where you can set an external editor of choice (and we all know which that will be ;) ) to be the default whenever the extension is used from within Apple Photos.

Thanks Allan, this will help a lot with the workflow.

I've tried both opening a photo from the Media Browser and via Apple Photo and this new extension.

What's happening is this:

  1. After editing the photo opened via the Media Browser and saving it, there's an issue in the Photos thumbnail

  2. When I hit the Edit function in Photos, the changes (both via the Develop persona and a few Adjustment Layers) are lost

  3. Once it opens in Affinity Photo (via the "External Editor" extension), none of my previous changes are saved

One other thing, when I open my photos via the External Editor extension, I can't save them back in Apple Photos, since it only offers me the "Save As" option (even if I use CTRL+S and not SHIFT+CTRL+S).

Not sure if it's due to something I did wring or a known bug or something, let me know if it's not posted in the right place.
