irandar Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Hello, I have been astrostacking in groups of 4 LRGB and editing FITS files from Tel Live. I suddenly started having problems. Was getting a lot of spinning wheels of death during editing, and then the last finished edit I saved took 5GB and lots of time. Usually it would be maybe 20mb. It exported ok as jpeg . Later I loaded a new set of FITS as groups of 4 LRGB, total 16 files. It stacked ok but crashed before I could apply the stack. Tried a second time and crashed again. I have been using AP1 for maybe 2 years. These are the first problems. Thanks for any ideas.
Staff stokerg Posted July 31, 2023 Staff Posted July 31, 2023 Hi @irandar, First, i would suggest resetting Affinity as outlined on this post, when you get the window to appear with the tick boxes, 3 will be ticked and you can click on Clear. Then try creating your stack using the set of FITs that caused a crash and see if they now stack okay. Could you also upload the FITs files you are using to our Dropbox here and I can see if I can replicate the crash and look into the large file size issue.
irandar Posted July 31, 2023 Author Posted July 31, 2023 Hello @stokergMany thanks for your reply. Things seem to be working OK now. It was not the stacking that gave the problem but a Save As after editing. I think for the moment I will not reset because I would not want to lose all my wonderful JR astro macros. Thanks and regards, stokerg 1
irandar Posted July 31, 2023 Author Posted July 31, 2023 @stokergI see from my post that I did have crashes after astro stacking when trying to Apply. I will wait and see how things develop. Regards
irandar Posted August 3, 2023 Author Posted August 3, 2023 @stokergHello, I have again experienced 5.23gb file size after astro stacking a set of 15 FITS files from TL. After editing it was 2.93 GB. The resulting jpg 100% file was 124 mb. Do you think anything is wrong with APv1 or my iMac? Thanks PS I have not yet followed your advice about resetting Affinity.
irandar Posted August 10, 2023 Author Posted August 10, 2023 Hi folks, It seems that large files can develop, at least with my iMac Monterey using APv1. In contact with Dan at Affinity he stacked the 12 fits files from TL and created an astro merge, whatever that is, which resulted in an 850MB file. I stacked them in 4 LRGB groups, according to JR, which gives 3.9 GB, then using the JR LGRB composition macro takes it down to 2.95 GB, then applying the JR normal tone stretching macro gives 3.8GB. and then in another case with the same files further editing took it up to 4.7GB.
