after a while space and modifier keys start to toggle last used tools in designer 2.2 beta

Are you sure it's not related to the new feature in this beta that has a few issues?

No it is not related.
I am drawing, not using text tool. And this issue doesn't appear first, this bug appears after 10-15 minutes of drawing.
It is related to the spacebar, alt, shift, backspace buttons.
It is an issue that somehow designer translates these buttons as toggle between the two last used tools, like it is messing with the new feature of changing back to previous  tool, if I press and hold a tool hotkey.

Hi @keiichi77

Could you just answer a few questions to clarify a few points:

  • Which tool do you have selected initially?
  • Which buttons exactly are toggling which tools?
  • Do you have any custom shortcuts set up in Settings > Shortcuts?
  • If you're on Mac, could you turn on your on screen keyboard and provide a longer video of this issue in action, so we can see exactly what is being pressed

Yes, but these shortcuts only related to shortcuts that doesn't match my non-english keyboard layout, including e.g. toggling grid or guide visibility. the shortcut of the main tools are intact.

it is always the last two tools, no matter what. the buttons triggering the toggle was space or ctrl or backspace.

I am on pc, but I will find a way to record keys other ways on weekend.

Hi @keiichi77

It is by design that toggling the spacebar will toggle the Pan tool (the hand icon), also holding control will toggle the node tool when using several of the design tools such as the Pen tool.

It still would be helpful to upload a screen recording with your keys recorded so we can see what is happening when you toggle shift or backspace.

above I uploaded a video of this issue with spacebar. it is quite well visible what happens. I used spacebar, because the hand tool icon is a good sign of using the hand tool. But I promise I will record it.

The issue is not that spacebar temporarly swaps between hand tool and the used creative tool (as every other 2d creative software did it I used in the passed 20 years), the issue is that spacebar toggles the last used tools accidentally (of course excuding spacebar).
So that's what happens:
1 I use node tool to manipulate shapes.
2 I use move tool
3 I press and hold spacebar and drag the canvas with temporarly activated hand tool
4 I release spacebar
5 In the moment of releasing spacebar Designer toggles to the last used tool I used before move tool, so in this case it is node tool.

So I started with move tool before spacebar, but after spacebar it doesn't switch back to move tool, it switches back to node tool.
If I tap spacebar again, it continues switching to move tool, another spacebar tap switches to node tool and so on.

But it is not related only to move and node tools, I ran into this problem with toggling fill tool and vector crop tool.
So it unintentionally starts swapping last 2 used tools after I work in Designer for a while.

@keiichi77

Unfortunately this is not something I can replicate, if you manage to get a screen recording that shows your keys active on screen then please send it over and we can try to look into it again.
