I can't understand... I used this feature before and it worked. The point is that:

  • I have a book
  • I want to start with page 1
  • I want all the subsequent documents go simply in sequence
  • (each document starts whit a new section)

When I try to set the section to continue numbering from the previous, the option "continue page numbering" is gray. Even if I try to set manually a new page number (e.g. 57), the page numbers on the document remain unchanged (e.g.55), even after update (in this case, the section panel continue keeping 57 but the document continue keeping 55).

I observe also that in the section manager I can see only the section of the open document and not all the book sections.

I am getting mad for this. I did dozens of attempts but maybe I am doing something wrong.

Could someone please help me? Thanks

I made other tests and I think I understood that:

  • continue numbering can be used only inside a single file, from the second section on;
  • the first section of a document, has never the "continue numbering" flaggable
  • book sets the numbers "manually" to be in sequence
  • it is not possible to delete a section; if you create it you must keep it for ever (any idea to overcome this?)

I am going to load the sample files now

No, still not working. It seems that when a file gets a starting page number it never can be used anymore. I am uploading the complete project. You can see that the last page numbering is and remains wron, whatever I can do.

The "Continue page numbering" option is never available for the first section in a document, regardless of whether it is a standalone document or a chapter in a Book.

For a Book, you must choose Page Number Options from the Books panel menu if you want to change a chapter document's starting page number. This provides the same option as in the Section Manager for the first section of the document, and using Page Number Options will change the value in Section Manager. However, there is a bug going the other way and I'm unsure whether it has been reported before so use Page Number Options for now.

@Callum If I open a chapter document, I can change the name and number style for its starting section with Section Manager but not the starting page number. It lets me type a number but does nothing with it, it doesn't update the section's starting page number in the left column. The value will be lost if I click the next section or close and re-open the dialog. I can change the starting page number from Page Number Options which updates Section Manager properly.

You are right, thanks, I am a donkey and Iforgot that option that I used to use! Thanks, you solved my problem.

However it would probably be great if you could alse remove sections, not only add.

I have no problems deleting sections in any document, including in chapter documents. Could you share a screen recording of what happens when you select a section and then click the Delete icon? Note that you can't delete the first section.

To MikeTo,
I did have the same problem with page numbers in book chapters. I didn't know it can be done in the books panel.
Thank you, Rico

Hi and welcome to the forums. I think this is just an oversight, I think you should be able to change the starting page number in the section manager. It's not disabled and changing in through the Books panel changes the same field. It's likely something that will be corrected eventually but for now the Books panel is the way to go. Cheers.
