where are the pantone libraries under Affinity apps V2?

Recommended Posts

That will depend on whether you're using Windows or macOS, and also which Store you downloaded/installed the application from, and for Windows whether you used the MSIX- or EXE-based installer.

For any installation source/method on Windows, I think they should be wherever the program was installed, in the Resources\Pantone directory.

Thank you for your reply.

Please tell me where it would be located in the case of the Windows MSIX installer.

In a hidden directory, that Windows works hard to prevent you from seeing or modifying.

For me, for Photo 2.1.1.1847, it's C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.1.1.1847_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App\Resources\Pantone but that would change with updates to newer releases.

You can find it by starting Photo 2, then running Task Manager, then expanding the entry for Photo 2 in the Task Manager window. Right-click on the first entry in the expanded listing, and choose Open File Location.

But really, if you're needing to mess around that deep in the innards of the application, I would suggest that you uninstall the MSIX versions (of all 3 applications, if you have them), download the EXE-based installers, and reinstall.

Thank you for explaining all this.

What I just learned is that the downloads are also MSIX versions- there does not seem to be an EXE installer available.

Wherever you find the MSIX versions on the Serif website you can also find EXE versions. If you install them, though, you should first uninstall the MSIX-based ones you have now.

Thank you. I found them and have installed them. They were under a drop-down identified as "Looking for Windows MSI Installers?".

You would have to ‘take ownership’ of the special WindowsApps folder in order to view its contents, but there’s no need to do that because you can go directly to any of its subfolders. Copy the folder path

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.1.1.1847_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App\Resources\Pantone

to the Windows clipboard, press and hold the Windows key (the key with the Windows logo, to the left of the space bar) and press R to display the Run dialog. Release the Windows key, paste the copied folder path, and press the ‘OK’ button (or press the Enter key on your keyboard). You can go up to

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.1.1.1847_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt

if you’re curious to see what else is in there.

Sorry about that! It's probably the space character which is causing problems on copy/paste. I'll take another look.

Apologies again! I edited my previous post when I found that %ProgramFiles% doesn't work for me either.

I'm not sure what I'm doing differently from when it worked before. :(

Edit: Try this plain text version (where I've omitted the forum markup):

It works now. Thank you.

But, now there are 2 other problems:

  1. I am not allowed to copy new .csv files into this directory;
  2. I am not allowed to go back to WindowsApps to see tne contents of Publisher's and Designer's PANTONE directories.

You would probably need to change the folder permissions.

As I said earlier, you would need to ‘take ownership’ of the WindowsApps folder in order to view its contents, but you can do the same as we did for Photo:

C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPublisher2_2.4.1.2344_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App\Resources\Pantone

C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityDesigner2_2.4.1.2344_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App\Resources\Pantone

How can I do that? Because nothing else works.

Eventually I'll have to go back to .EXE installers instead. I had no problems with them.

You cannot open WindowsApp (and you should not "take ownership" of it) but you can open the folders below it. So, just copy the complete address you want, and paste it into the File Explorer address bar, or into the Run box that the Windows key + R will give you.
