Pito Salas Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 I know I can launch Affinity Photo from MacOS Photos.app. But I don't like that when I save the photo it basically overwrites the original in Apple Photo, so I can't revert. I'd like to grab the photo from MacOS Photo into Affinity Photo and save it as an .aphoto file separately. There's got to be a simple way but I don't see it. Thanks. Quote
MikeTO Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Hi Pito, choose File > Save As instead of File > Save. You can always revert to the original in Apple Photos. (Do a web search on how to do that if you do not know how.) Pito Salas Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 Not sure that's true. I think if I edit it with Affinity plugin (using the ... menu as recommended) and save back to photos.app it seems like it doesn't remember the original one. Maybe I'm wrong but I think i noticed that. As far as save vs. save as, when I return from Affinity the only option presented is Save. --- To be clear, I am following what is I think the recommended workflow. In Apple Photos, click "edit". Once in edit more click on the ",,," menu and choose Affinity Photo. In Affinity do your work, and then close the window. This will take you back to Apple Photos with just one option which is to save the edit. Is that what you do? Quote

Most of the hits will be for the iPhone but several will be for the desktop Apple app, like this one. Note that exact steps & where the edit options vary by version of that app, but one will work for whatever version you have. You can also search this forum for more about that, or use the help built into Apple Photos for more. MikeTO Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Pito, R C-R is correct, you can revert. It's not obvious though because Undo isn't available for edits made outside of Apple Photos. If you're using the latest version, just edit the picture in Photos and then click Revert to Original. Pito Salas Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 Now, what happens to the .aphoto file? I assume it has more in it than the jpeg? Quote
