Publisher file corrupted

Recommended Posts

Hi @Charis and welcome to the forums,

Could you confirm which specific version of Publisher you are using and on which platform?

Are you happy to upload your Publisher file, along with any linked assets so we can take a look to see if it can be recovered?

If you'd prefer not to upload your file/s to the public forum you can reply to this post requesting a private Dropbox link to upload your files to where someone from the moderation or development team can take a look and report back.

I believe the version of Affinity Publisher I am using is 1.10.4.1198

If so you're two releases downlevel, as 1.10.6 is current for Publisher V1 on Windows. Updating probably won't help recover your file, but there bug fixes in 1.10.5 and 1.10.6 that you're missing.

How do I get the latest bug fixes

Did you purchase directly from Serif or from Microsoft?

Hi @Charis,

If you log into your Affinity account at https://affinity.serif.com

Click the Menu Hamburger icon, in the top right of the screen and go to My Account, followed by Downloads & Product Keys, scroll down the list and see if v1.10.6 is listed as available to download...

Version 2 is of course now available if it's something you're interested in and Serif currently has a 25% off sale, so you could also upgrade to take advantage of the new features if relevant for you.

If you manage to download v1.10.6 and still have issues with your Publisher file, let us know and a private DropBox link can still be provided...

Thank you for your help, I have downloaded v1.10.6  from my affinity account and reinstalled it. But when I open the file it still says the document file is corrupted and must be closed.

I would like to get version 2 sometime, but I have a lot to pay out at the moment.

Hi @Charis,

If you create a New Document in v1.10.6 with just a single page matching the Document Setup of your corrupted file, do you still see the same error message when using Document > Add Pages from File...?

If you do, I'd be happy to take a quick look at your Publisher file for you if you are happy to send it via a DM as sometimes, depending on the level of corruption, it's possible to open in V2 and then re-purpose it back to V1 but if you'd still prefer a Private DropBox link for one of the moderation team to take a look then they can provide one for you...

If the document is truly corrupted, even V2 may not help you.

Possibly it can be recovered by one of us (if you can share it here) or by a Serif staff member (if you can only share it privately).

Hi hangman

Yes, it works when I use document> add pages from file. All the pages came in and the text and pictures seem OK, the error message didn't come up this time. Thank you for your help

I think I will have to save it as a new document

Hi @Charis,

That's really great to hear, you may or may not need to relink and graphics (if they were previously linked rather than embedded). One thing to check is that any Linked files are shown as OK in Resource Manager.

And yes, definitely save it as a New Document, keep a backup copy and save the new file regularly.

Is there a way it can be restored?

Try this: create a new document > choose menu Document > Add Pages From File… If this generally works (~ offers a dialog to select pages) you can close this new document and either repeat + add the most recent pages into an earlier .afpup document version (from a backup?) or create a new document with same properties (page setup, colour profile, etc) to add the corrupted pages there.
