MikeFromMesa
I received an email with the notification that there is now a Windows alpha version of Designer. The notice was informative, but failed to say if there was also going to be a Windows version of Photo. What are the plans? While I don't generally use Windows my MBP does have both Windows and Mac partitions so it would be good to know. It would also be helpful to know if a Mac license also allowed use on a Windows system.
Dave Harris
Yes, there will be a Windows version of Photo - we would be foolish if there wasn't. I've no idea when, though. Eventually I think we will put all three apps on all three platforms (OS X, iOS, Windows), all with a common file format. It's going to take a while, though. You won't be able to use a Mac license on Windows, or vice versa, I'm afraid. The various App Stores don't support that kind of thing. billtils
Presumably the Windoze version will fully support Photoshop plugins ... Retina iMac (4K display, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM) OS X 10.11.6 Capture One 10.
MikeFromMesa
Presumably the Windoze version will fully support Photoshop plugins ... Yes. I had not thought about that. Without the App Store restrictions I assume that is so. Still, moving to Windows is a very high price to pay for getting my (increasingly less important) plugin functionality to work. I think I will stick with the Mac, especially considering that I am still paying for this one. :D
billtils
Mike, I wasn't being all that serious, but if having a full suite of functional PS plugins turned out to be vital, there's always Bootcamp or Parallels. MikeFromMesa
Mike, I wasn't being all that serious, but if having a full suite of functional PS plugins turned out to be vital, there's always Bootcamp or Parallels. I actually have both Windows and OS X installed on the MacBook Pro and I would probably try out the Windows APB version just out of curiosity, but after all of those years writing Windows based software I am now a Mac user and have no plans to go back to yesteryear. Still I did sign up for the Windows beta version just to see what is what. I find I almost never use my Topaz plugins anymore since the built-in AP functionality is usually just as good, if not better. The external software that I use with C1 are all external apps, but I don't have that much need for them as well. The only real need I have is for NR software and, with the FF, I don't have much need for that either. C1 turns out to be the Swiss Knife of photo software for me. terrybarth
For quite some time now, the website has said "it's only a matter of weeks" when affinity will be available on Windows. Is there any date, or estimated date for a windows release? While it include photo? Thanks.
Staff MEB Posted May 13, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 13, 2016 Hi terrybarth, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) The timeframe given when we announced the Windows version (15 March) was two/three months however the Beta sign-up page may be a little misleading due to its reference to "weeks". I'm sorry for the confusion. No, Affinity Designer will be released as Beta first. Photo will come later.
