Hi all,

I just made a simple search in the forum and I really thought I would find an answer straight away but I did not…

Sometimes I point out some bugs and I get some tag like "afb-7229"…

I wanted to have a look and see if the problem was solved ?

image.jpeg.aa456befb03c625e16a5db63279a067d.jpeg

I entered afb-7229 => No luck at all with the search… I thought I would…

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks…

You're searching for words in the title or text. If you want to search for a tag, you can click Search by Tag on the Search page, and enter the tag name:

Or, if you're looking at a topic that has a tag, just click on the tag itself. The tags in the topic header are links.

Thank you both !

And now… is there a way to "detect" if the issue is considered as addressed or not ?

For example, I thought that the tag that affinity gave to my post ("afb-7229") meant they would work on the problem…

Do those tags only mean they agree there is something wrong and they will look at it later… ???

I would love to be able to get a sort of status on the tags Affinity give to us :

For example, I search for "afb-7229", I get :

- 1/ ok there is a problem

- 2/ we're working on it

- 3/ we need more time…

- 4/ we found the "bad boy"…

- 5/ try the next beta

- 6/ it's an old story, everything is ok now, for sure…

Maybe the information is already somewhere ?

The tag means that the team that handles the forum thinks there is a bug, or possibly just something that could be improved, and has passed it over to the developers for consideration.

With more recent processing, since about V2, if the tagged item is resolved there will be an additional post to say it's been handled. For older ones, probably not.

Well, fixed probably when the lately (some time ago) introduced Serif Info Bot will tell that an issue ...

"Affinity Publisher 2.0.3 Mac ; inserting a special character by right click ; macOS Ventura 13.1" (REF: AFB-7229) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.2.x.xxxx".

How did you get to that information ? What search did you go for ? Have you set up an internal database following Affinity's infos ?

NOPE, I've just shown you a future look of what will possibly happen then, by replicating what that Serif Info Bot  usually does. - Just look at some of the postings of that Bot and you will get the idea!

Haha, well sometimes I have, but only sometimes! 😉  - But more honestly, being a developer yourself, often helps as you then already know either way one or two things about websites, forums, how they overall function ... and the like!

The text string AFB-7229 only appears in this topic, when using the forum search, as far as I know. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&q=afb-7229&quick=1

Compare those results with the results from: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&q=afb-7229&tags=afb-7229&eitherTermsOrTags=or&search_and_or=and

Ah, that might be the reason, thanks. – But now I wonder: You search for a tag that wasn't tagged before? – What do you expect to find?

Where from do you get some tag sometimes? To me it is mainly either near a thread's title or it appears as tag in a search result. In both situations it is an existing tag (… and usually formatted as tag incl. a link which enables us just to click the tag to cause a search for it … which means I might remember wrong with having searched for a tag as text many times before)

(Oh boy don't they say "Oh my god"?)

@thomaso, I'll try to explain better…

Let's imagine I open a new topic…

Let's imagine Affinity tags my topic with some ABC-1234…

Nobody knows that tag has been used, it's Affinity's tag…

But now, some days later, I do a simple search on the forum to see if Affinity did a comment on my topic, maybe to give me some good news…

i decide to search for ABC-1234 : I find nothing, I thought I would…

There, @walt.farrell gives me the advice to use "search by tags", and that's the solution, even though I would have appreciated to find the result with the "standard" search…

Now, I open a second topic, speaking about the first one AND in that second topic I input ABC-1234…

It is now logical that the standard search finds ABC-1234 because it is in the text part of my second topic…

This is what I was pointing out…

Well…

I think we should be able to search for tags in the standard search and not only in a specific "tag search" area… That's my opinion…

But all this is not very important… the more important is to eradicate bugs !!

Well you can always shorten and search directly after a tags rev number here in order to get that initial tagged thread, aka ...

The forums info bot will use that direct (REF: AFB-7229) tag link too here then, when later reporting that it has been fixed.

But I'll have to wait, the bug is still present in the actual release… and that bug bugs me !!!!!

But sometimes it is a real bug and then Affinity tags my topic.

1) Fill search form out like this:

image.png.3f80cdf7d46a4a3119fd060be6403e0d.png

(The resulting URL will be https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=afb-7229&search_and_or=and when you press search)

2) You'll get this thread as the only search result:

3) Your bug will if confirmed by Serif as a bug be updated with a confirmation from a Serif Info Bot that "the issue was has now been reported to the developers by the testing team"

4) Once it has been fixed the Serif Info Bot will update you again in a new post

5) Further updates will follow

You issue was reported before this flow was introduced recently, I believe. You can ask in the thread if there is any news and ask them to bump the issue. Rarely makes any difference though in the short term.
