Angela15
Hi, I am very new to Affinity 2 and a raw beginner and I am having trouble with a very simple process. In Affinity 1 (on my son's laptop) it was very easy to export an SVG file as a PDF document. I cannot seem to find this in Affinity 2. It is not clear in the tutorials or I am obviously not looking in the right place, or is this something that is no longer supported? I am involved with a charity and only have to design a T-shirt logo once a year. My file has to go directly to the t-shirt printers as an svg on pdf so they can open it on their software. I have tried several times, but everything on the pdf turns up as a jpeg or png eventhough I select svg for export on the export persona. I would really appreciate your help with this, because at the moment I am wishing I could have downloaded version 1 instead.
walt.farrell
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. Have you tried simply using File > Export from the menu in the Photo or Designer Persona, rather than using the Export Persona? Can you share the file you're trying to export? Angela15
Hi Walt, thank you for your reply. This was the problem. I hadn't realised this version was so different from the original. I don't know whether it is in the original set up, or the export process. (At 65 I'm finding it overwhelming as I am usually quite computer literate! The language of design and export personas mean nothing to me. I can't even remember that being in version 1. I only use it once a year too. I was hoping to use it more now I have retired.) I set the new document as a press ready A3. Should I have used that or print? There isn't a clear option to me of just a pdf. I am not sure that this option is available. Komatös
@Angela15 I think you're struggle with the export dialog? Angela15
Hi Komatos, thank you for your helpful response. This is the process I used, but when the pdf was opened by the printers it was not an svg image. Some of the image didn't show at all. It went through as a jpg or png which they cannot process without retracing. There is something I am obviously doing wrong with the initial set up of the file, I think. I may just have to go back to my son's version 1 until I have time to figure it out. It was so simple in version 1. 1. Draw graphic as A3 size file. 2. Save as SVG 3. Export as PDF. I can't find the same process in Version 2 unfortunately. Regards, Angela

That is not a process that would work in V1, either. You cannot Save an SVG from the Affinity applications, whether in V1 or V2. You can only Export them. Angela15
Sorry Walt, I know that every file I have done several times as an svg over a 3-4 year period on Designer1, I have been able to export the svg file as a pdf document and had no problems with it at all. The professional printing company I use open them on Corel Draw or Illustrator with no problems. I just want to use the same process, but it is not working for me and I am just finding it very frustrating as this version is a totally different process and not very clear to see how I am meant to set this up. I really appreciate your help. regards, Angela
walt.farrell
When you Save you will end up with a .afdesign or .afphoto file, depending on which application you're using. When you Export you can end up with an SVG or with a PDF, depending on which you choose. And both V1 and V2 should work that way. If you can Save your file, and let us look at the .afdesign or .afphoto file, I can say more. Otherwise there's just too much guesswork. If you can't share it, then maybe a screenshot showing the design and the Layers panel would help. Or maybe someone else will have more ideas, or you can wait for one of the Serif staff to provide a private upload link so they can look at it. Angela15
Hi Walt, it is a very simple design, but we have managed to sort it for now. My printers have retraced the design and I am going to try and work out what I can do with this program for the next time I need to use it. I will be spending a lot of time with the tutorials to see if i can figure it out! Just wish I had downloaded the version 1 when it was still available (a more 'idiot proof' version, I think.} I will get my son to help me when he is next available. Thank you so much for your help, but I will not take up anymore of your precious time. Thank you and kind regards, Angela walt.farrell
