Strange pixelization/aliasing effect at certain zoom levels

Recommended Posts

Hey there. Just got the program and it's been pretty good so far. However, I keep running into this strange effect at certain zoom levels and I can't figure out how to get rid of it.

I'll upload some attachments showing the problem.

This one has the weird effect happening: Capture2.PNG.cce26cf789dae6b48f32a1ad1c08aea2.PNG

This one is clean, at just one zoom level below the previous one:

Any help is appreciated.

Hi @IvanGogh and welcome to the forums.

When you draw vector shapes or lines in Affinity Photo, they are rasterized.  And depending on the zoom level and whether anti-aliasing was turned on when you drew the objects, the raster effect is then visible.

It is an interaction of the pixel density and screen resolution of the monitor, the pixel density of the document and the size of the drawing pen/brush.

Vector shapes or lines are not rasterized in Photo.

However, when Photo displays them it uses a pixel-based display rather than a vector-based display. That is, they remain vector, but zooming in can show pixel rasterization on the screen.

So what you're saying is there's no way around it?

I don't really get a similar issue with any other programs I own.
