Hi All,

Haven't used Affinity for a while.

Can't seem to simply draw a shape.

When I select or drag the Elipse tool onto the work area it just disappears in a puff of smoke.

Have been playing help videos & trying all sorts of things for 2 hours now but I just can't get past this stage.

Any help would be gratefully received. Thank you.

It sounds like you have managed to enter the Customize Tools... mode on the View menu, in which you should see a window full of tool icons to the right of the Tools panel, & are trying to drag the Ellipse Tool off of that panel. That is to be expected because that is how customizing that panel works. See https://affinity.help/designer2/en-US.lproj/pages/Workspace/customizingToolsPanel.html for more about that, & how to add or remove tools from the panel.

Regardless, note that to use a tool, you just click on it in the panel (not drag it) to activate it.
