I have an issue with selection.

I am choosing quick mask to select an object but it's the area around the object I want to modify (in Photoshop, I used to be able to inverse selection and the pixels outside the selection were then selected)

How do I do that?

Hi, I'm having the same problem, but invert selection seems to just deselect the entire selection. I made a screen recording in case it helps. What am I doing wrong? If you don't want to view the recording, essentially I'm just selecting a portion of the image, and then *trying* to inverse the selection so that I can delete the rest.

Any help would be appreciated.

Selected the flower. See the ants just around flower. I used the selection brush.

inverted the selection

I encountered a similar issue recently. While I initially anticipated the selection to invert, it seems to only deselect, which is quite frustrating. As a workaround, I had to delete the entire selection and then manually select the alpha of that layer instead. I would greatly appreciate any solutions or suggestions you may have. I am unsure if my understanding of the concept of inversion differs from that in other programs. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I have seem to have fixed the issue by turning it off and back on again. Very odd, still learning the quirks of the software.
