Hi everyone,

I want to publish a printed book on Amazon KDP. However, I am not sure if the page setup is correct. I included the original Affinity Publisher document with this post.

Here is the setup:

Page size: 8.5" x 11" (215,9mm x 279,4mm)
Margins:
Inner: 0.787" (20mm) / Outer: 0.626" (15,9mm)
Top: 0.579" (14,7mm) / Bottom: 0.579" (14,7mm)
Bleed:
Inner: 0" (0mm) / Outer: 0.125 (3,2mm)
Top: 0.125" (3,2mm) / Bottom: 0.125" (3,2mm)
Color: CMYK/8
Color profile: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
No transparency (KDP doesn't allow any transparency, so be careful with FX effects like shadows)
Colors in use (C M Y K order)
CMYK_White: 0 0 0 0
CMYK_Black: 0 0 0 100 (true black)
CMYK_L_Shadow: 33 33 33 33 (Light shadow)
CMYK_D_Shadow: 40 40 40 40 (Dark shadow)

Please, can you tell me if the included Apub document is correctly setup for KDP? Any extra advice you can give me will be very welcome.

I thank you in advance and appreciate your help.

Have a nice evening.

Chris

I will point out that I have no experience with KDP. The document you included is set up so the colours you have defined are what you want as are the page dimensions with the correct Margins and Bleed settings. In the Colour tab you have correctly chosen to have the Transparent background unchecked. So I would think this will pass.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hi Old Bruce,

Thank you for checking out the document. I also think it is correct, but I have no experience. This is my first time.

I am only in doubt about the page dimension. Should I enlarge the page dimension with the bleed values, or can they remain at 8.5" x 11"? I have no idea about that.

I appreciate your reply and wish you a lovely weekend.

Unfortunately you have to set the document up according to KDP guidelines and then you have to submit the document to KDP with one eye closed and gritted teeth and hope KDP is in a good mood lol!

Do not enlarge the page dimensions.

Hello Firstdefence and Old Bruce,

Thank you both for your replies. Indeed, I will follow your advice and leave the page dimensions.

I looked at the information about KDP provided by Amazon. However, they contradict each other. In one place, Amazon states that at least 79 pages must be present for text on the cover spindle. In another place, they say at least 100 pages if you create the cover yourself and 130 pages if you use their cover creation tool.

So I will keep the document as it is, create my text styles and then create the content.

I wish you both a lovely weekend.

Chris
