Hello everybody!

Hope this is the right place to ask my question. I have searched this forum, but I could not find the answers on all my questions. At the moment I am using the trial version of Publisher V2 on my desktop. I have already V1 on my desktop and V2 on my iPad.

I am working at a book-document where all black has to be pure black. So CMY has to be 0. First I checked every item by hand, then I read here on the forum about preflight. Well, I thought that would be the solution to check. I was so happy! But....

I got failure messages and when I checked them it has CMY 0 en only K100.

Attached are:

  1. Image about the color profile. CMYK/8 - uncoated FOGRA29
  2. Image you can see that CMY = 0
  3. Image with the warnings.
  4. Image which setting I used in preflight to check this.
  5. The version I use (2.1.1)

My questions are:

  1. Is this the right way to check if there is only K used?
  2. Can I check the PDF itself in Publisher? The printing house says I have to use Adobe Acrobat Pro to do this.
  3. Is there a quick way to set everything in only black, instead of clicking every item to check?
  4. Is there preflight on the iPad version? And where?

Greetings from The Netherlands!

Hi @Dutch Daisy and welcome to the forums,

I suspect you have something like an 'Outer Shadow' FX applied to various elements on Page 2 of your Publisher document.

If you check the colour settings for whichever FX you have applied and change the CMYK settings to CMY: 0, K:100, for all instances of the FX this should remove the preflight warning...

As a workaround you can open the PDF in Affinity and check the definitions for blacks in the Colour Panel with the Lock de-activated.

Hi Hangman, thank you for your welcome and for your advice. I have checked the FX settings, but I did not have them. There is a gradience I have filled in, in some forms but I have checked that they go from C0-M0-Y0-K0 to C0-M0-Y0-K100.

The error with filter effects are not only page 2 but all over the document.

The failure on page 2 is the QR code, but the fill is there also:  C0-M0-Y0-K0, see the image.

Thanks for your advice. I tried and the first message I got that it missed a font, I was sure I embedded it. Will try it again.

Hi @Dutch Daisy,

Thanks for the feedback... would you be happy to upload your Publisher document along with any linked graphics, if there are any, (using Save as Package) plus an exported PDF file so we can take a look at where the problem may lie?

If you'd prefer not to upload it to the forum then feel free to DM the file and I'd be happy to take a look for you.

Is the QR Code a JPEG or SVG file?

Hi Hangman,

Thank you for your offer. I'm careful about uploading the files, I hope you understand that. I'll wait for the printer's reply. Maybe they're fine with the files. If not, you will read from me. I just managed to make from the QR code one object by converting it en give all the squares a 0,2mm stroke.

That's absolutely no problem at all and I completely understand... just let me know how you get on and the feedback you get from the printer and if there are still issues and you'd like me to take a look at your file I'd be more than happy to do so... :)

Well I have good news! There was no problem. Just approved the digital copy. Wow, how exiting. Soon I will get 500 books in my small apartment! All made in Affinity Publisher and Designer. You can read about them on my website: https://pluspassie.nl There is an translate-button.
