Work file location?

Recommended Posts

It would appear that Photo uses the %userprofile%\.affinity for storing data when the memory limit is reached.

Is there a way of changing this  location as I would prefer to have that data store on a different -faster- disk.

I suppose I could use a symbolic directory link, but do not really wish to do so.

That is what you would need to do.

You could either move the entire .affinity directory, or you could move just, for example, the Photo\2.0 (Beta)\temp directory that is within the .affinity directory. I would probably just move that temp directory.

The concern here is that the problems Affinity programs have with saving documents on drives other than the primary one (which under unfortunate circumstances end up in corrupted document files) are also a problem here.

There is no issue with saving on drives "other than the primary one" as far as I know. There are potential issues with saving on external drives (USB-attached external, or network-attached external), but I don't recall seeing any reports of issues saving to an internal drive, whether HDD or SSD, or to an in-memory disk.

Thank you for the quick responses. What I cannot find is a setting in preferences which allows me to specify a drive other than the 'primary' one, i.e., %USERPROFILE% which, by default, is the drive on which Windows has been installed.

There is no setting. If you need to redirect where the directories are stored, you can use symlinks that you setup in the Windows file system.

I strongly disagree that this is a solution at any acceptable level for any customer. It has to be a setting in the programs. It's also common practice.

You're of course free to disagree, but it is what you need to do if you're using the Affinity applications and want to perform that function.
