roni-p-art
In version one when you exported a file to pdf, it kept all the layers. In V.2, i have no layers. I am not sure why this is happening. I have about 152 files that i exported to PDF (that at some point need changes in the future ) and i have just discovered the layers are missing. I have created the files exactly the same as in Version 1 of affinity. This is pretty annoying. I have been using publisher for years and never had any problems. Is there any way to fix this. ?????? Everything that was exported to PDF in my old affinity still has layers. but everything that i have exported to PDF in the new affinity does not. I have enclosed two files. One is the affinity file with layers. The other is a PDF created using this Template (and there is only 3 layers ???? I am not a graphic designer i just use affinty to do my own work and I am not an expert at this - but i have been doing it this way for years and it always imported Ok with layers to PDF. Since upgrading i have noticed all my new files are totally buggered as there are no layers. Do i have to save as affinity and then save as PDF from now on (meaning I have two sets of files. So If I have to change my template I change the main file and then update my PDF. If so thats gonna be a pain. Why does it not work like before?????? 150 - BDSQ 007 - BIRTHDAY 50th 001.pdf A SIMP - 150 CARD - TEMPLATE .afpub
Hangman
Hi @roni-p-art, The reason your PDFs lack layers is because your adjustment layers are stacked in the layers palette rather than nested and subsequently everything below the adjustment layers becomes rasterised on export resulting in just three layers for the sample file you uploaded. If you instead nest your adjustment layers then your basic layer structure will be maintained on export and will include layers... Of course, you need to make sure that nesting the adjustment layers still gives you the overall look you want but I'm assuming you didn't really want to apply the adjustment layers to your QR code and FSC Logo etc., Change the Adjustment Layers (Left) so they are Nested (Right) roni-p-art 1 Quote Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 Affinity Designer Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Photo Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Publisher Beta 2.6.0.2861 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse

You should have been doing that, anyway. PDF files do not include all of the information you may have in your Affinity files, even if you Export to PDF in a way that maintains layers. You lose Text Styles, text flow between frames, and much more information, and only retain information on how the contents should be printed or displayed. roni-p-art 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. roni-p-art
I think I have sort of figured it out. I have attached 2 files again. I have shoved all the things into separate layers . This time they all where in my PDF. The only thing I could'nt look at was the changes on the images in the pdf (curves etc.. But that doesn't matter. I am sort of happier now - but will still have to redo all my files again in this format - so If I need to change the back of the card layout I can do it easily Thank you for your help.... I think I got this now. I am only putting files on so other non techy people like my self can see what i have done. The other way in V1 was simple it just did everything - so if you was a messy organiser like myself it all worked. Lokks like i need to think about what i am doing from now on and work a bit more tidy... In version 1 there was only root-level support both when showing these layers in Adobe Acrobat, and when reading back Layer layers in Affinity apps. I'm curious to understand how V1 differs from V2 in this respect as I couldn't immediately see any difference but equally, I'm likely missing the obvious...
