I can’t  get opentype stylistic sets to work in v2/2.1 on iPad. All apps. But have no problem using them in v1.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a bug?

What font, or fonts? Screenshots? Sample document?

They seem to work OK for me. Here's one example:

The font is Bondrians.
Everything works flawless in v1.

In v2 it’s very hard to even select the letter you want to change. Most of the times it just selects the whole word. It takes a lot of tries, and then the stylistic version is grayed out and doesn’t work.

Strange.

I have Affinity designer/photo/publisher version 2.1.1 on a IPad Pro 12.9 forth generation on iPadOS 16.5.1.

I have tried using finger, Apple Pencil and Bluetooth mouse. No difference.

Where did you download that font from, and what version?

Yes. I installed the Bondrians.off file from that site.

Thanks for trying. Still can’t understand why it’s not working for me. It’s grayed out in the menu.

Have they made any changes in v2 on how to select a single character? For me it selects the whole word and I have to drag the marker handle to have just one character selected. I also seem to notice that it’s harder to select one character with a Bluetooth mouse than with the finger.

Sample document, and screenshot, would be useful. You might also consider that the menu is just gray in general, and try to use it anyway.

I don't use a Bluetooth mouse, so I can't comment on that. Selection of words or letters seems about the same, to me. You might try zooming in (if you haven't) so you can more accurately click between letters, which might help.

Also, thinking about your comment about the menu entry being grayed out: If you select a letter that the Stylistic Set doesn't apply to, it may not let you activate it. So having the entry grayed out may also mean you haven't chosen an applicable letter. Again, screenshots and samples are useful.

I’ve uploaded two short videos showing the selecting problem

The first one is Designer v1. No problems.

The second is Designer v2. Serious problems selecting. Selects whole words and very hard to just select one character. Is it a bug or me doing something wrong?

Neither of those videos seems like it's working properly, to me, @Pixero.

Both of those videos work for me, Walt. The main thing I noticed in the v1 video is that the Move Tool was initially active and remained active until the last of a series of finger taps finally succeeded in selecting a character. The main thing I noticed in the v2 video is that I couldn’t see the tools!

Sorry. The videos work, but neither shows the application working correctly, in my opinion.

Coming back to the opentype stylistic sets not working in v2.

In Designer v1 there is no problem changing selected letters to a stylistic set.

In v2 the same stylistic sets are grayed out and can not be set. The same goes for Publisher.

Any ideas?

We would need to have a sample, or at least know which font and what text characters are involved and have some screenshots or a recording of the issue.

Same font as before: Bondrians.

First image shows Designer v1. Everything works as expected.

The second image shows Designer v 2.2.1 Notice the stylistic sets are grayed out and cannot be set.

Thanks for the screenshots.

The Stylistic Sets only appear to be inactive in V2. If you click on the button in front of the set name, it will activate (though you may need to click more than once).

Thanks. That did indeed work. Never thought I’d have to click multiple times to make it work. Not a very good UI design IMHO.

Something does seem like it could be improved there.

Possibly one of the Serif staff will be able to confirm whether there is a bug.

Hi Pixero,

I've logged this as a bug for the devs to look into.

An additional note regarding your selection issues which can be a little fiddly on iOS in general, you can navigate the cursor by holding the screen space bar for a second then dragging for more precise cursor control.
