MarioVee Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Sorry, I'm still new and learning. But I have a problem, I don't know what to search for. In the picture below, I have indents set up, but the lines that are long don't wrap where I would like them. How can I edit the lines of text(yellow highlights) so they align (start) at the beginning of that parent indent? Quote
walt.farrell Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 It would help to have your sample .afpub document so we don't need to start from scratch in constructing a test case, and so we can see how you have defined your text styles and provide better advice. However, it will probably involve changing either the "first line indent" or the "left indent" settings for the paragraph. And most likely the "left indent", since that is what controls the subsequent lines in a paragraph. Example: First line indent (1) of .25, and Left indent (2) of 0: Both set to .25: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. MarioVee Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 Yes! Thank you, that seems to work! It seems odd to me to have to adjust this setting. Is this the 'norm'? I guess new paragraphs often have indents, but what could I search for to learn more about this specific formatting (specifically indent/paragraph styles etc), or can you possibly recommend any youtubes that talk about working with this? walt.farrell Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 I'm not aware of anything except for what's in the Help, and personal experimentation. Plus looking at the default Text Style settings to understand how they work. Try looking at the various Bullet and Number text styles, for example. I guess new paragraphs often have indents, Note that paragraphs often have indents in their first line only. That might explain the need for two fields: 1st line + entire paragraph. – Whereas, honestly I still can get confused by the Affinity interface that offers the paragraph indent on top and the fist line setting below while changing the paragraph indent always changes the first line indent, too, which actually is a helpful feature if wanted. The use of indents is often a matter of taste – although there are definitely some "typographical rules", for instance about a min/max. width of a first line indent or not using a first line indent for the first paragraph in a new chapter. (the latter usually gets solved with two paragraph styles while the first uses the second as "Next Style"). An internet search for "indent first line versus paragraph" show quite a few results with discussions of "have to" and "no go" … Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
