Ammar Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Hi How to align text boxes in Affinity Designer using baseline and not the box bottom edges ? Kindest Regards Quote
v_kyr Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Probably via some Snapping candidates settings and visual controlling, aka if the red line horizontal target snapping matches here. Something like ... screencast_snapping.mp4 Ammar 1 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
GarryP Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Can I just ask: What are you trying to achieve by this? In other words, why are you using the baseline to “align” the text frames? Can you give more details about your process, preferably with a visual example? Quote
Ammar Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 In UIUX design it’s recommended to align texts based on there baselines Quote
GarryP Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 I understand why someone would want to align the text to a baseline but I don’t understand why the text frames which contain the text need to be also aligned to the baseline. Or have I misunderstood your initial question? Quote
Ammar Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 No I don’t need to align text boxes just texts to there baseline Quote
GarryP Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Oh… then I don’t see how v_kyr’s suggestion would help as the Snapping has nothing directly to do with the text positioning within the frames in relation to the baseline. Or what that has to do with the “bottom box edges”. I’m still confused as to what you are trying to do. If you have found a way to do what you want then that’s great, but I’m thinking about other people reading this and wondering if it’s really the correct answer for what they might want to do. Quote
Ammar Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 If you see the video posted above you’ll understand how it’s related to aligning text baselines between 2 texts in 2 boxes, forget about frames you’re still confused. Quote
GarryP Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Ah… this is in Designer, sorry, I thought we were talking about Publisher for some reason. Yes, the way shown in the video is the way to get the baselines of the text in the different text frames aligned in Designer. I’ve just booked my brain in for a full service and tune-up. Just a note for anyone reading this: Text baselines in Designer are handled differently to those in Publisher which has much more, and better, baseline handling functionality. If you’re using Publisher then you probably shouldn’t normally be aligning the text in frames using the Baseline Snapping functionality as shown here, especially for long texts. Quote
