Editing Warp Groups ?

Recommended Posts

Finding a use for this feature in a new design I'm working on - which is really cool I hope this one sprouts some wings

I'm having difficulty going back into objects - in this instance a Text Box - to adjust the amount of warp etc. I can't find the settings in the context bar and the only way I can find to get them back is you apply the same function Layer > Warp Group > Bend Horizontal but when I do that it seems to reset the box and just bugger everything up

How do I get the settings back ?

I tried a quick search and the first hit was a thread on bugs that's still need sorting so maybe that's what this is - hopefully just me not knowing what button to press again though

Select the Text Box with the Move Tool by clicking once. The switch to the Node Tool. This brings up the boundaries of the warp group.

That's the dandy 👍

Within the Node Tool - of course

Your explanation above could just have been "you have to select the Node Tool" though not sure why I need to have the Move Tool selected in order to select the Warped Layer - but anyway cheers - a simple fix is the best fix 💡

I admit the extra step with the Move Tool is not necessary. I just wanted to make sure the object is selected at all.

??? If you want to edit the Warp Group, you do not want to select any layer in that group, so you would not select a text object if it is in that group.

Correct. I should not select a single object among several others inside a warp group. Thanks for pointing that out.

In the example in my mind and according to the OP's description there is only a single text box inside the warp group. In that particular case it is possible to select that text box with the Move Tool and then turn on editing the warp group by switching to the Node Tool.

It is even easier to directly use the Node Tool and click on the text object. This immediately switches into warp group editing mode.

In both cases it does not work to click on parts of the warped object that are outside of the original vector object. One has to click within the bounding box of the unwarped object (see screenshot). I am not sure if this needs further improvement.

It doesn't matter how many items are in the Warp Group. If you try to select any of them by clicking on the group with the Move Tool, you will select that warp group, not any item in it.

Hi @R C-R,

I'm not quite understanding what the point is of what you are saying. This may be due to the fact that we are communicating in written word which sometimes lacks the quality of spoken word. But I want to understand.

Yes, it is possible to click on any item of a warp group to select the group (as with any other group). But it makes no difference if the group consists of one or many items in it. So what do you want to add to my initial answer?

To me the great difference at the moment is that it is neccessary to click on the area of the warp group's original content and not somewhere on its visual representation. This may be irritating to some users. This is what I try to illustrate with the image I posted above.

Cheers,

Not always true. Depends on Auto-select mode.
