Inconsistent constrained resizing with shift key.

Recommended Posts

When selecting and resizing layers in the affinities there's no consistency while using the shift key.
With an image layer one can resize without using the shift key.
With Artistic text one can resize without using the shift key.
With Pixel Layer one can resize without using the shift key.
With quick shapes textframe or other vector objects one needs to use the shift key to constrain its resizing.

It sounds like you have your Settings for the application set so the Move Tool Aspect Constrain option is set to automatic. That will change the behavior depending on the kind of object that is selected. Perhaps you want it set on, or off, if you want consistent behavior without having to think about it. It's in the Tools part of the settings.

This is by design, not a bug.

It should be the default here as this is a strange omission to use shift for one thing and not for the other.

I really like this feature and I'm glad it was the default or I might not have found it. It makes sense to me, I don't want to mess up the aspect ratio of picture and artistic text layers but I do want to be able to change the aspect ratio of shapes and text frames. I realize not everybody would want that which is probably why Serif made it optional.

Having lived in the Adobe ecosphere for decades, I have always found the default Affinity behavior inconsistent and frustrating. If I want something constrained, muscle memory says, "hold Shift." Hard, very hard, to unlearn that behavior.

To my brain, consistency is better.

Thanks @walt.farrell for pointing out this setting that I had missed until now. (Of course, if the UI fonts weren't so incredibly tiny, I might have seen it before. 😂)

I will not go in an endless debate with anyone anymore as I've been on this forum since January 2017 and know what's what and who's who.
I post these posts for Serif to take note as I see them.
