Load times for V2.1.0 unacceptable

Hi,

It is taking 145 seconds to load each of the three applications.  V1 just took 15 seconds.

They take a long time to load fonts ("Loading fonts").

Does not happen with V1, and MS Word loads in a couple of seconds.

I do not see a support forum so i posted this here.

How many fonts do you have installed?

How long did 2.0.4 take to load them (assuming you tried)?

Did you deactivate all user installed fonts, maybe one of them is buggy?

I believe it took just as long with the previous version.

I don't know which ones they are and how to do that.  I need to use the Google and Adobe fonts.

425 according to the Control Panel.

Shouldn't matter.  MS Word takes one second to load and V1 apps take less than 15 seconds to load.  It is a V2 issue!  No excuses!

Did you install using the default MSIX-based installers, or did you install using the optional EXE/MSI-based installers?

Can you give us some specifications about your PC, and the Performance page from Settings for one of the applications?

I'm not seeing a degradation as severe as you're reporting, but on the system I just tried (with MSIX installer) I have only 338 fonts installed. Designer 2 started in under 20 seconds. It is slower than V1, which only took about 7 seconds. And most of the slowdown does seem to be in font enumeration.

I used the original setup which I think was MSIX.  I did not want to mess with any user created install procedures.  Did not realize there was an EXE installer now.

In the application Settings. Edit > Settings, or Ctrl+, (by default).

If you want to try them, it's best to uninstall your current applications first. Things get confusing otherwise.

If you use them, when there are subsequent updates you will be prompted to download them manually, and install them manually, like in V1 (and unlike the more automatic way that updates are handled for the MSIX versions).

I am okay with the original installer Walt.  I found out how to change the installation directories from yours and others posts here.  Nice to know though.  I do prefer the old way though.

Hi Filoplume,

If you haven't already its worth making sure you have latest GPU drivers and version of .NET installed. You may also want to try the MSIEXE version of the app as Walt suggested as we have known this to improve launch time in a few specific cases.

Okay Callum!  I printed out your suggestions.  I did just update my NVidia drivers.  I may try a more current version.

i have same problem and tried uninstall all versions, install from msix, clear all data using ctrl whn open apps.

i have a dell G15 5520 windows 11 pro 22h2 comp. 22621.1848 RTX 3050 24GB RAM DDR5 INTEL CORE I5 12500H
i tried nvidia driver update, intel drivers update, unistall font manager, and much more...

the time is long time too to open all apps, and some times any tool i have click take a time to active, windows freeze from some seconds whn a click in some tools for first time.

time after click on text frame 2 seconds to able to use

time after click on node tool 3 seconds to able to use

time after click on rectangle tool 2 a 3 seconds to able to use

time after click on "window>text>caracter"  or "paragraph" is 7 to 8 seconds to appears the options on window

it seems to me that the whole app has some lag whatever i click for the first time after opening the app no matter how many times i close and open the app there is always the lag.

on a computer with amd 5600G 32GB RAM WINDOWS 10 and geforce gtx660 in the company where I work daily there is no such problem.

it is only happening on my laptop after update to 2.1 ( or clean install )

I have 2 memory sticks, I'll try using one of them just to see if that's not it and I'll come back here to talk

they are not memory sticks, and I tried using only the intel gpu instead of nvidia rtx and nothing changed.

no matter what I do it's the same happening and response time of starting applications and tools.

I have all the computer's drivers up to date and software components... anyway... I don't know what to do, I have to be patient and work like this until a solution comes out or something is discovered.

But this lag is annoying, the software stops being responsive and delays the workflow

I looked at my account Walter and I do not see how to download the EXE install versions.

I'm on Mac but as a comparison on my 2015 iMac Monterey 12.6.6 Photo boots up in Approx 12 sec, mean average of multiple boots. I have a shed load of fonts active, more brushes than the Average Joe, and a rack load of plugins. I use Typeface to manage my fonts and what an elegant app it is, so I do turn fonts on and off a fair bit. Applying Plugins can take a while in some instances, such as Filter Forge, depending upon how complex the plugin was.

Designer takes approx 10-11 sec

Publisher is the slowest at approx 24-25 sec

On my 2019 Photo takes approx 7 sec

Hi Walt,

Just an update.  25 seconds to load Designer V2 now with a new system and the exe/msi versions.  Better that what it was, for sure, but it still struggles on the "loading fonts" part.
