whitefur Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 We are unhappy with designer. The program has several ways to make curves and not single way to make fast shadows. I make quick shadows with the Ilustrator software, try ideas with light and shadow. And the eraser is missed or not there, or something. But I have 3 ways to make curves out of boxes! I will use Painter and Illus.
Komatös Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Hi @whitefur and welcome to the forums. Maybe I'm not that spoiled, but I find that with the Offset tool of the Outer Shadow effect you can quickly create a shadow. Oh no don't worry, better be happy, things will hopefully evolve over time here and offer even more capabilities, so people maybe are then still happy again. 😉 ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

v_kyr Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 I too wonder what Ilustrator based fast shadows should be here, since when I looked over some YouTube Illustrator videos how people tend to make shadows there, I can't see anything I can't already do in the same manner with ADe. People there use mostly gradients and shaded vector curves, which all are avaiable in ADe too. - Beside those ADe has also the FX inner/outer shadows, glow and gaussian blur for quicker shadow creation turnarounds. ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
firstdefence Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 Are these shadows vector shadows or raster shadows, so, when you make a shadow in Affinity with FX filters you are eventually rasterising the object. The only advantage I can see with regard to shadow creation in Illustrator is the blend feature which automates a process that could be still done in Affinity, albeit longwinded. iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more...
